RORY FALLON

'Rory Fallon' (born. March 20, 1982 in Gisborne, New Zealand) is a tall, powerful striker who plays for English Football League Championship team Plymouth Argyle. He is contracted until June 2009. In the January transfer window 2006 League One team Swansea City signed him from Swindon Town for a believed fee of £300,000 the second highest fee ever paid by the Welsh club, and in January 2007, Plymouth Argyle equalled its transfer record by bringing Fallon to Home Park for the same sum.
Fallon was signed from Barnsley on November 2003 after a number of impressive performances against Swindon Town, which eventually caught the eye of manager Andy King.
He originally joined Barnsley as a professional in 1999 after moving up through their trainee programme and he had just began to cement his place in the first team at Oakwell when he suffered a stress fracture of his foot, which saw him struggle to regain his place.
Town eventually agreed a disclosed fee with Barnsley to bring him down to Wiltshire and having waited patiently for his chance, he scored a number of important goals in the 2003/04 campaign; including a brilliant overhead kick from the edge of the box to secure a point against Bristol City.
After the departure of Tommy Mooney in the summer of 2004, Fallon was given his chance to start the season as a first choice forward, he didn't take the opportunity and found himself regularly on the bench. He was loaned out to Yeovil Town to increase his confidence and he scored on his debut. He didn't manage to score in the remaining games of the 2004/2005 season but did get a red card for kicking Huddersfield defender David Mirfin in the face which made him miss the opening two games of the following season.
After star Swindon striker Sam Parkin was sold, Fallon quickly became a fans favourite, scoring on his return to action against Nottingham Forest. Fallon is a hard working striker who is eager to score and has currently scored three goals in seven games.
Fallon completed a move to Plymouth Argyle of the Championship for £300,000 on January 19 2007. This was a club-record transfer deal.[1]

International career

Despite being born in New Zealand and having a father who coached New Zealand at the 1982 World Cup, Fallon chose to represent England at junior level.
However, in January 2006, the current New Zealand coach, Ricki Herbert, suggested that Fallon might still get a chance to represent New Zealand at senior level. Herbert claimed that the only reason why Fallon wasn’t picked for the All Whites, as the New Zealand team is known, was due to lack of correspondence from FIFA regarding this matter.
Rory had until he was 21 years old to get a clearance from FIFA to change nationalities. The matter is still unresolved.
