ROSSI

'Rossi' is an Italian surname, in fact the most frequent in Italy. Due to Italian immigration to many other countries, is also very common in the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Chile. Rossi is the plural of ''Rosso'', meaning the color red in Italian language. It has other less diffuse variants such as ''De Rossi'' or ''Rossini''. In the case of Italian Jews, the name refers to the fact that at some point in time they had to wear a distinctive red hat in Venice.
Another variant, the Russo surname, is related to the singular form ''Rosso'' and it is the second most frequent surname in Italy, being more diffuse in the South of Italy[1] with respect to ''Rossi'', instead mainly diffuse in Northern Italy[2]. However ''Rossie'' is also a Scottish surname with such variations as Ross (however the Ross surname is claimed by a different clan: Clan Ross), and sometimes Rossi (Clan MacLeod).
Also, from the Greek (Rossos): ethnic name from RÅssos ‘Russian’.
