Company Structure
SCC sits under the umbrella of Specialist Computer Holdings (SCH), entirely owned by Sir Peter Rigby (founder, chairman and CEO). SCC has a number of sister companies within SCH, including Specialist Computer Recruitment (SCR) and two distribution companies: Enhanced Technologies Corporation (ETC) and Interchange. A third, GlobalDis, was closed in March 2006 [2].
SCC operations are split between the UK and Europe, with Sir Peter's two sons, James Rigby and Steven Rigby, leading the two respective sides of the company. While the main focus of the business has traditionally been on very large companies and public organisations, a new division - SCC Exchange - was created in 2004, aimed at the UK small and medium enterprise market [3]. SCC Exchange branches have subsequently opened in several European countries.
Company History
In 1975, Sir Peter Rigby, founded Specialist Computer Recruitment (SCR). An outsourcing operation, Specialist Computer Services (SCS) opened in 1980, followed by the creation of SCC in 1982. Throughout the 1980s, SCC offices were opened in numerous UK cities, including London and Edinburgh. The 1990s saw the beginning of a new strategy - expansion by acquisition not growth. SCC has staged regular takeovers since 1995 (see below for full list), the most recent being the acquisition of MVS Srl from IBM Italia[4].
In 2002, Peter Rigby was knighted for his contribution to IT and business in the Midlands. SCC's SME arm, SCC Exchange was launched in 2004.
SCC published figures of £2.038 billion turnover for 2005, making SCC the largest privately-owned business in the West Midlands and 11th largest in the UK overall[5].
