'Sadlands' is the nickname of Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan's one-time home studio in Chicago, Illinois.
Corgan bought the Victorian house located on Chicago's north side a few blocks from Wrigley Field after the success of the ''Siamese Dream'' album. He had the house painted purple soon after moving in. Not too long after that, Chicago Magazine published a picture of house in an article detailing the homes of various Chicago celebrities. Despite the fact that the article did not list the exact address, more than enough detail was provided and the purple color was a clear giveaway. Corgan was quickly beset by unwanted visitors. The house was sold not long after the Pumpkins broke-up in 2001.
Parts of the 1995 MTV Rockumentary about the Smashing Pumpkins were filmed at ''Sadlands'', most notably the scenes of Billy with his piano.
Many of the songs from ''Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness'' were written and demoed at ''Sadlands'' as well as several from ''Adore'' and ''Machina/The Machines of God''. The infamous acoustic leaked ''Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness'' demo tape was recorded there.
