'Saint-Quentin' is a commune of northern France. It has been identified as the ''Augusta Veromanduorum'' of antiquity. It is named for Saint Quentin, who is said to have been martyred here in the 3rd century.
Saint-Quentin is a ''sous-préfecture'' of the Aisne ''département'', part of the Picardie ''région''. Although Saint-Quentin is by far the largest city in Aisne, the ''préfecture'' (capital) resides in the third-largest city of Laon.
The mayor of Saint-Quentin is conservative Pierre André, member of Nicolas Sarkozy's UMP Party.
