SALANGEN
'Salangen' is a municipality in the county of Troms, Norway.
Salangen was separated from Ibestad January 1, 1871. (Lavangen was merged with Salangen in the period January 1, 1964 - January 1, 1977.)
The municipality is situated along the fjord Sagfjord, and also includes inland valleys. Most people live in Sjøvegan, the municipal centre.

The name
The municipality is named after the fjord Salangen (Norse ''
★ Selangr''). The first element is ''selr'' m 'common seal', the last element is ''angr'' m 'fjord'.

Salangen is the most northern place in the world were bats live.
