Early life and career
Born 'Elizabeth Jane Young' in Salida, Colorado, she had her first film appearance at the age of seven when she appeared in ''Sirens of the Sea'' in 1917. She returned to the film business as an adult in the 20's where she played small parts in a number of silent films.
Her career continued into the 1930s when Blane appeared in a number of low-budget films, among them ''Once a Sinner'' (1930), ''A Dangerous Affair'' (1930), ''Arabian Knights'' (1931), ''City Limits'' (1934), ''Against the Law'' (1934) and ''This Is the Life'' (1935).
She married actor and director Norman Foster in 1935. They had two children, Robert and Gretchen.
Her film work greatly reduced during the late 1930s, though her career included appearances in more 100 films. However, she did appear with all her acting sisters, including Georgiana, in the 1939 film, ''The Story of Alexander Graham Bell''.
After that Sally Blane appeared only in four more movies in small support roles - ''Fighting Mad'' (1939), ''Charlie Chan at Treasure Island'' (1939), ''La Fuga'' (1944) and ''A Bullet for Joey'' (1955).
She was a close friend of singer and actor Russ Columbo and was at his bedside when he died after a freak gun accident in 1934.
Blane died of cancer, just like her sisters, Polly and Loretta, in 1997 (aged 87).
