SAN PABLO GUELATAO
'San Pablo Guelatao' is a town in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, about 55 km north of the city of Oaxaca, Oaxaca. It is the birth place of Mexico's most famous leader, President Benito Juárez. About 1810 (in Juárez's youth) it had a population of fewer than 100 people. In 2001 San Pablo Guelatao had an estimated population of about 1,200 people.
Guelatao, as it is often called, is in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains. The majority of the population are Zapotec Native Americans. The town has a small museum dedicated to Juárez.
