Since ancient times, the people of the East have called the Ruling God of the universe 'Sangje.' Sang(上) means "above" or "highest" and je(帝) means "ruling god." Sometimes ''Sangje'' is also called ''Sangjenim'' with the Korean honorific suffix of ''Nim'' attached.
