'Sardar Patel Stadium (Gujarat)' (Formerly known as Gujarat Stadium) is a Cricket stadium located in Ahmedabad, India. The Sardar Patel Stadium is the Test cricket venue of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Built in 1982 on the banks of the Sabarmati River, the first international Test match here was played on November 12, 1983 between India and the West Indies. The stadium comes under the aegis of the West Zone and is commonly known as 'Motera'. It has an official capacity of 48,000 spectators and is equipped with floodlights for day-and-night games. Motera has witnessed some great feats of Indian cricket history:

★ Sunil Gavaskar completed 10,000 runs in Test cricket in 1986-87 against Pakistan.

★ Kapil Dev, who had taken 9 wickets in an innings in the first match on this ground scalped his 432nd wicket in Test cricket to pass Sir Richard Hadlee's record, thus becoming the highest wicket taker in Test cricket at the time.
The pitch once favored the bowlers, but has lately been host to drawn games. It is named after Sardar Vallabhai Patel, India's first Home Minister.
