Plot

The lead character from the previous two movies, Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris), is currently a television newswoman who begins investigating the deaths surrounding a mysterious videotape and its connection to crop circles appearing on the farm of Tom Logan (Charlie Sheen). The connection eventually leads Campbell to work with the President of the United States (Leslie Nielsen) to stop an alien invasion of Earth.

Extended Plot

The story begins in a parody of ''the Ring''. Two girls, played by Pamela Anderson and Jenny McCarthy, are in a house watching television, and then go through a series of activities that reveal their ignorance. Then the phone rings downstairs and they go to answer it. It turns out to be Pamela Anderson's mother, and Jenny McCarthy goes upstairs before a series of ignorant activities in the kitchen occur. Pamela goes upstairs to find Jenny's head severely distorted, which then falls off. Pamela, showing her ignorance, constantly asks the corpse if she's okay. Just then, Pamela looks at the television, and Tabitha (parodying Samara) rushes to her from the inside of the television, then the camera focuses in on Pamela's breasts, then the Scary Movie 3 logo comes up.
Tom Logan is in bed, he hears a scream, and he hastily sits up, his head hitting a lamp on the ceiling. This continues a few times, then it shows he is in the bathroom, urinating, until he hears the scream again, then when the screaming stops, he continues urinating. This continues a few times before he loses his balance and falls backwards, crashing. He then is running on the farm, following the sound, and he meets his brother-in-law, George Logan. George tells Tom that the dogs are acting strange (riding the lawnmower, smoking Sheisha, etc.) They go and follow the screaming, until they're in the middle of their cornfield, where they meet Sue, Tom's daughter. They look at a wide space in their cornfield, and the camera zooms out, revealing the "crop circle" to be words (Attack Here) and an arrow pointing directly at them.
Cindy Campbell is now the anchorwoman for "the Morning News", and she is covering the crop circles in Tom Logan's farm. When she is done, she runs into her boss, who criticizes her for believing the crop circle stories. He reminds her that the news program is for sex, violence, and the weather. Cindy says she can sense something about the cornfield, blaming Womens' Intuition or ESPN or both, and then walks straight into a microphone, falls back, and someone else with a cup of coffee trips over her too and falls. When her boss helps her up, she rips open her shirt and says "what's so interesting about these" (her breasts), then a party pops up in the newsroom, with her boss making out with a pair of twins, with the song "Twins" going on.
Tom walks out of his house with a sheriff, who tells him a neighbor group of kids probably planted stuff in the cornfield that destroyed it. Tom doesn't seem to care how it was done, only that it happened, and that he has sixty days to come up with a dollar and fifty cents. The sheriff calls him Father, but Tom rebukes her, saying he lost his faith, "that terrible night" (this is explained later in the movie). The sheriff attempts to comfort him, but her hat begins to randomly get wider, which he stares at, dumbfounded.
Tom is working on a tractor, and George comes in, walking like a "gangster", dressed like a wigger, listening to rap music (''8 Mile''). He talks about having a dream, to have a dream, and about a rap battle he's going to. He gets on the bus to go to town, and, because he's arguing with Tom, the bus doors close on his neck.
Cindy is picking up her nephew from school and meets her old friend, Brenda Meeks, who is now teaching at the school. They meet George, who instantly falls in love with Cindy, and vice-versa. He tells them about the rap battle he's going to, and it's obvious that Brenda gets angry at him, thinking he's just a wigger who doesn't know anything about good rap. When George leaves, one of the school children throws a box of crayons at the door, and Brenda screams "Now who the fuck did that?!".
Cindy and Cody walk to the car, Cody stops and Cindy asks if he's having a vision. He talks about a little girl with black hair who wants to kill her. He also says some random stuff, such as when her period is, and that she's kneeling in dog feces, etc. Cody says he sees a grown woman, and a boy but no father. Cindy gets exasperated at this and tells him that all they need is each other.
Cindy starts driving, talking to Cody and then realizes that Cody isn't in the car. She drives in reverse to go get him, and hits him, causing him to fly through the air.
George and his friends, CJ and Mahalik, are at the rap club. George tells them that he's kind of nervous, and Mahalik and CJ start arguing about the difference between rats and mice. CJ says that George needs a hype-man, and George and Mahalik slam him into the wall unintentionally.
Brenda and Cindy are in line, about to pay their way in, and Brenda begins telling her that she doesn't feel safe, and asks if Cindy can come home with her to hang out. When Cindy agrees, Brenda tells her to pay her way in.
The rap battle was already underway and Brenda was dancing along and enjoying it when Mahalik stops and asks a random man (Simon Cowell) what he thinks. Simon Cowell insults the two rappers and the whole club not knowing what's he doing there until he gets shot by Mahalik and co.
George is up next against Fat Joe who is up first and nervewracks George until Fat Joe finishes. George starts in a funny way in which he uses a mouth organ and then begins rapping. When he stopped, the audience cheered and the people yelling "George! George!" until he pulled up his Klu Klux Klan-like hood and the audience and everybody was silent.
Mahalik begins to warn George to "lose the hood", George understood it wrong and thought he was in the hood, then the audience pulled him out and he was thrown out of the club.
In Brenda's house, Brenda was telling Cindy about the tape and she said she watched a week ago... tonight. Brenda starting playing pranks with Cindy until she said she will get the popcorn when suddenly the TV switched on automatically. Brenda switched it off and the TV switched back on. Brenda pulls the plugs but the TV again switched but with the well in which Samara/Tabitha was in on the screen.
She complained about 50 black people getting beaten by police but doesn't realise Tabitha was on until the picture changes to the ring and water oozing out of the bottom. the picture then changed and Tabitha closed in and advanced through the TV i.e. head first and then both arms. Tabitha finally is out of the TV and stands for one second leaning sideways to let water leave her ears.
Brenda was angered at what she has done and yelled Cindy this bitch is messing up my floor, Tabitha finishes leaning and stands upright and sticks out her arms and starts walking to Brenda. Brenda was starting to feel scared and calls Cindy for help but obviously she can't believe her. Brenda suddenly throws a punch and then gives her an uppercut and kicks her in the crotch and then headbutts her.
Tabitha finally found her power and gave her a punch and then a flying kick which sends Brenda behind the sofa and Tabitha leaps behind her and carries on attacking.
Later on, Cindy was curious and walks in the living room, looks behind the couch, and then lets out a ear splitting scream.

Characters

★ 'Cindy Campbell' - Cindy (Anna Faris) is now a newswoman, working for ''The Morning News''. Now looking after her deceased sister's orphaned child (Cody), she is determined to find out the connection between crop circles, aliens and a killer video tape. Her quest is foiled by her boss - the show won't allow the news to get out due to the fact that he believes that the only news that should be reported must have to do with sex, violence and the weather.

★ 'Tom Logan' - Tom (Charlie Sheen) is an ex-minister, a widower who lost his wife (coincidentally played by Sheen's then-wife Denise Richards) in a horrific car accident which is explained later on the film. He, like Mel Gibson's character in the horror film ''Signs'', wakes up to find mysterious patterns in his field (except in this movie it's a rectangle formed by knocked down crops, with some parts of the field left standing to reveal the huge words 'ATTACK HERE' and an arrow pointing to exactly where Tom, George and Tom's daughter are standing to examine the work). A seemingly caring and wise man, he loves his family although he doesn't seem to approve of his brother's intended occupation (a rapper).

★ 'George Logan' - George (Simon Rex) is Tom's brother and an aspiring rapper. A friend of rap club owner Mahalik, he is clumsy, lacks common sense, and is known for unintentionally causing trouble and subsequently (and literally) getting thrown out of places (he accidentally wore a Klan-like hood in the middle of a rap battle and ruined a funeral when he thought that Brenda's corpse was still alive). George also seems to have some feelings for Cindy and the status of their relationship is a recurring theme in the film. Cody looks up to him as a father figure.

★ 'Brenda Meeks' - Brenda (Regina Hall) was Cindy's aggressive, loud-mouthed best friend who was an elementary schoolteacher. She is one of the first people to have watched the video tape and dies fairly early in the film. After her death, Cindy begins to investigate the mystery of the tape.

★ 'Cody' - Cody (Drew Mikuska) is an orphan who has visions of the mysterious force that is at the heart of the killer videocassette. Cody is invincible (in the film, he's hit by a car twice, is blown out of a window, is hit on the head with a shovel, the head of an axe, a basketball, and with a baseball bat, with no ill effects.) He is another one of the people who watches the video tape. His visions also seem to give him the ability to see into the future. In the deleted scenes, Cindy was actually imagining that Cody (and several other characters) existed.

★ 'Mahalik' and 'CJ' - Mahalik (Anthony Anderson) and CJ (Kevin Hart) are the owners of a local rap club. Mahalik is large in appearance while CJ is short and lanky. They are both good friends with George and frequently remind him that "the hood has always got your back." Early on, it is implied that Mahalik may have homoerotic feelings for George Logan but this plot device is gradually decreased as the film progresses (It is later explored again in Scary Movie 4). Mahalik and CJ are also known to argue with each other, often about random, trivial matters such as the differences between rats and mice (see below).

Despite brothers Marlon, Sean, and Keenan having starred in/wrote the first two movies, they were not involved in Scary Movie 3. This is apparent in the change of comedy style from the second to the third. Scary Movie 2 had more crude comedy and followed the Wayans Brothers' comedy. Scary Movie 3 used Leslie Nielson's comedy style. This said style can also be seen in the Naked Gun Series and the movie Airplane!

Alternate scenes

The DVD edition includes a director's audio commentary, several deleted scenes and alternative endings (with optional commentary). A "3.5" special DVD was also released, but contained the same material as the original DVD with an unrated version of the film that is largely identical with more scenes.
In an alternate scene, Cindy is told Cody doesn't exist, after hitting a few people in the face with a shovel, Cindy tells everybody who isn't real to stand over at a different spot, Cody goes over there, but is followed by Santa.
One of the scenes that appeared on the Extended DVD named ''Scary Movie 3.5'' was part of the unrated feature. After Pamela Anderson and Jenny McCarthy shut off the TV, the two compliment each other on their good looks. Anderson then mentions if McCarthy wants her "shaved pussy", but it turns out to be a furless kitten.

Parodies made

When Charlie Sheen dangles "Michael Jackson" from the window, he asks, ''"How do you like it?"'', referring to an infamous, controversy-stirring photograph of Jackson dangling his newborn son over a balcony.
Simon Cowell appears as a cameo appearance at the rap club. He insults two rappers (in a deleted scene, he makes fun of Anthony Anderson's "fat mother.") after their performance and is eventually shot continuously by the two, as well as Anderson's character and others. This is obviously an homage to Cowell's constant criticism on American Idol.
The President (Leslie Nielsen) repeats a line from ''Airplane!'', "Just wanted to wish you both good luck...we're all counting on you." and it was his line and action (opening a door and telling them). That film was co-directed by David Zucker.
Also, when faced with a difficult situation, the President asks "I wonder what President Ford would do?" only to reveal a portrait of Harrison Ford, who has portrayed the President of the United States in several films.
In the alternate ending, before and after Orpheus jumps the balcony, and when he runs up the wall, thin black wires can be seen suspending him up and down, a possible reference to some action movies' cheap stunts.

'President Harris': This is exciting? You should feel my nipples.
This is a reference to a scene in Baseketball with similar dialogue. Both films were directed by David Zucker.
