SCOTT COFFEY


'Scott Coffey' (b. May 1, 1971; Honolulu Hawaii) is an American actor, director, and writer. Coffey's first feature, ''Ellie Parker'', stared Naomi Watts, and was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival, where it premiered in 2005. It was released in the fall of that year by Strand Releasing to mostly rave reviews. Coffey is writing the film adaptation of Lolly Winston's novel ''Happiness Sold Separately'' for Fox Searchlight, which he will direct, with Julia Roberts starring. His acting credits include films such as ''Shag'', ''Some Kind of Wonderful'', ''Dream Lover'', and ''Mulholland Drive''. He was nominated for a supporting actor Independent Spirit Award for his work in ''Shag''.
Coffey currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Early career


Scott Coffey was born and raised in Hawaii, where he began his acting career appearing in school plays, community theatre and with the Hawaii Performing Arts Company. He also appeared in several episodic television shows. At sixteen, with the money he had earned acting, he travelled to Europe. Inspired by Bertolucci's ''La Luna,'' he felt compelled to visit Rome along with Paris and Budapest. He stayed three years, attending high school in Rome and acting in seven films, including ''Once Upon a Time in America,'' and the CBS miniseries ''Christopher Columbus.'' While on location for ''Christopher Columbus,'' Coffey was contacted by the William Morris Agency and moved to New York, where he signed with the agency and studied acting while co-starring in the off-Broadway play ''It's All Talk.'' After a year he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his film career and has been working ever since, appearing in ''Ferris Bueller's Day Off,'' ''Some Kind of Wonderful,'' "Shag" ''SpaceCamp'' His television work includes a special ''Twilight Zone'' entitled ''Private Channel'', as well as a memorable ''Amazing Stories (TV series)'' episode directed by Robert Zemeckis and featuring Christopher Lloyd and Coffey's costar from Some Kind of Wonderful, Mary Stuart Masterson.

Coffey's feature film, ''Ellie Parker'' (2005), which finished production in July of 2005, was an Official Selection of the 2005 Sundance Film Festival and won the New American Cinema Special Jury Prize at the Seattle International Film Festival. He wrote the film based on the short story, ''All God's Children Can Dance'' by Haruki Murakami.

Personal life


Coffey lives in Brooklyn, New York City with his long time partner Blair Mastbaum. He counts Naomi Watts, and David Lynch as close friends.
