SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE 2007-08
The '2007-08 Scottish Premier League' season is the tenth season of the Scottish Premier League. It began on August 4 2007. After the 33rd round of matches, the league will split in half and each team will play a further five matches against the teams in their half. It will be the first season under the sponsorship of the 'Clydesdale Bank'.
The league champions and runners-up qualify for the UEFA Champions League, usually entering in the third and second qualifying rounds, respectively. The team finishing third qualifies for the UEFA Cup, as do the Scottish Cup winners, usually entering in the first round and second qualifying round, respectively.
The bottom-placed team will be relegated, providing the team finishing top of the Scottish First Division satisfies basic stadium criteria.
Celtic are the defending SPL champions and are looking to win the title for the third successive season. Gretna were promoted from the First Division last season and play in the SPL for the first time, replacing Dunfermline Athletic. Gretna will not play at their home stadium Raydale Park as it does not meet SPL stadia criteria and will therefore groundshare at Fir Park - the home of Motherwell.
The fixture schedule was released on June 14 2007.
