SEABURN

'Seaburn' is a small, affluent coastal township and resort in the City of Sunderland, in Tyne and Wear, North East England. It includes Fulwell and parts of Roker. The village of Whitburn, South Tyneside borders the town to the north.
Most of Seaburn is low-density private housing, constructed during the middle of the 20th century. The seafront is home to a variety of seaside attractions, including a sandy beach, seaside promenades, an amusement park, children's playgrounds, traditional fish and chip shops, many small guest houses and one four star hotel the Marriott, formerly the Seaburn Hotel or the Swallow Hotel. The main shopping street in the town is Sea Road, which runs from the seafront up to the Metro station in Fulwell.
Seaburn is still very popular with development happening in recent time. A small 'strip' of foreign cuisine restaurants has emerged making Seaburn a popular place to eat on a night time. As of 1 June 2007, there are four Italian restaurants two Indian restaurants, two Chinese restaurants, three traditional fish and chip shops and several pubs serving more traditional English food.
In the late 1980s, the old Seaburn funfair was redeveloped, with a Morrisons supermarket, new amusement park and leisure centre. The area now hosts the annual Sunderland International Airshow, the largest such free event in Europe. It remains a popular resort attraction for people across Wearside and beyond.
The town was one of critically acclaimed painter L. S. Lowry's places to stay. The time he spent in the area is acknowledged in the Morrisons supermarket entrance which displays a huge replica of one of his paintings.
The Sunderland International Airshow (http://www.sunderland-airshow.com/) is held on the coast at Seaburn and Roker and is the largest free event of its kind in Europe. The airshow is always very popular with members of the public with a good variety of acts ranging from fast jets from both the RAF and other air forces to small civilian acts like the Sukhoi 26. The show is aimed at all ages with other activities going on throughout the day making it a very popular day in the North of England and Scotland.
Seaburn has its own station on the Tyne and Wear Metro, although it is actually in Fulwell.
The town is part of the Fulwell ward on Sunderland City Council, represented by three Conservative councillors, and has long been regarded as a stronghold of the Conservative Party.
