![]() | Be a Nigga too - Nas NEW Song 2008 BE A NIGGA Nasir Jones (born September 14, 1973 known simply as Nas, formerly Nasty Nas, is an American rapper. Son of jazz musician Olu Dara, Nas is well known for his 1994 debut album Illmatic. This album established Nas as one of hip-hop's most profound lyricists, introducing his signature poetic style. Raised in the notorious Queensbridge housing projects in New York City, he represents a continuation of a hip-hop tradition in Queensbridge that has spanned through early hip-hop, including the Juice Crew, Mobb Deep, and MC Shan. Nas, whose given name Nasir means "helper and protector" in Arabic, spent the first years of his life in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. His father, Olu Dara was a jazz trumpeter and his mother Fannie Ann Jones was a Postal Service worker. He has one sibling, a brother named Jabari who assumes the alias Jungle. While in Brooklyn, Nas would listen to his father's trumpet in his house's stoop at age four. The family soon after moved to the Queensbridge Houses, the largest public housing project in the United States. Olu Dara left the household in 1986, when Nas was 13, and Ann Jones raised her two boys on her own. Nas soon dropped out of school in the eighth grade. He educated himself, reading about African culture and civilization, and the Qur'an.He also studied the origin of hip hop music, taping records that played on his local radio station. Nas interests moved away from playing the trumpet as a child to being a comic book hero artist. Nas had settled on pursuing a career as a rapper, and as a teenager enlisted his best friend and upstairs neighbor Willy "Ill Will" Graham as his DJ. Nas first went by the nickname Kid Wave before adopting his more commonly known alias of Nasty Nas. Nas and Graham soon met hip-hop producer and Queens resident Large Professor (William Mitchell), who introduced Nas to his Toronto-based group, Main Source. In 1991, Nas made his on-record debut with a verse on "Live at the Barbeque", from Main Source's LP Breaking Atoms. Despite the substantial buzz for Nas in the underground scene, the rapper was rejected by major labels and was not signed to a recording deal. Nas and Graham continued to work together, but their partnership was cut short when Graham was shot and killed by a gunman in Queensbridge on May 23, 1992. In mid-1992, Nas was approached by MC Serch of 3rd Bass, who became his manager and secured Nas a record deal with Columbia Records the same year. Nas made his solo debut on the single "Halftime" from Serch's soundtrack for the film Zebrahead and became part of the chang gang productions with Freshy C. The single increased the buzz surrounding Nas and when MC Serch's solo album is released later in the year, Nas' standout appearance on "Back To The Grill" only intensified interest. Hailed as the second coming of Rakim, his rhyming skills attracted a significant amount of attention within the hip-hop community. |

![]() | Nas Feat The Game amp Chris Brown - Make The World Go Round HQ Nasir Jones, IPA: [nɑːˈsiər], (born September 14, 1973),[1] better known by his stage name Nas, IPA: [nɑːz], formerly Nasty Nas, is an American rapper. The son of jazz musician Olu Dara, he was born and raised in the Queensbridge housing projects in New York City. Although he dropped out of middle school, he attained a high degree of literacy that he would later use in his lyrics.[2] Nas was signed to Columbia Records in 1994, when his debut album Illmatic came out. Illmatic was a critically acclaimed bestseller and would go on to be widely hailed a classic. Several other albums followed, including It Was Written in 1996, I Am... and Nastradamus in 1999, and Stillmatic in 2001. Nas was part of The Firm, a hip-hop supergroup that also included rappers AZ, Foxy Brown, and Nature. However, the group released only one album together.[3] From 2001 to 2005, Nas was involved in a widely publicized feud with rapper Jay-Z; both rappers verbally attacked each other in their songs. The two formally ended their rivalry through duet performances at concerts sponsored by New York City-area hip-hop radio stations. In 2006, he was listed number five on MTV's 10 Greatest Emcees of all time.[4] Also in 2006, he signed to Def Jam, releasing his albums Hip Hop is Dead in 2006 and an untitled album in 2008. His work has influenced, and been admired by many, including Kanye West, Eminem, Lupe Fiasco, 50 Cent, The Game, Jermaine Dupri, and Jay-Z. His lyricism has also earned him the respect from rap pioneers such as Rakim and Big Daddy Kane |
![]() | Gary & Dave - Could You Ever Love Me Again Issued in Canada July 1973 on Axe 10. Gary Weeks, from Charlottetown, PEI and Dave Beckett, from Newmarket, ON, had been friends since grade school in the early 1960s. They played in numerous bands until 1966, when the pair auditioned for a United Appeal concert, and came in fourth out of five hundred acts. They began to play the festival circuit, and became a top attraction at the Japan World's Fair in 1970. Gary & Dave's first recordings were made in 1969; in 1970 they had a single on Quality 1977 - "Tender Woman" b/w "I'm A Rider." In 1972, they signed with Greg Hambleton's Axe label, and made two singles that didn't see much action. Then in 1973, they released their own composition, "Could You Ever Love Me Again." It entered the RPM 100 on July 14, 1973 at #98. It picked up a bullet at #44 on September 8th, lost it at #31 on September 22nd, gained it back on October 20th at #10. It was #2 with a bullet for two weeks in a row, and then hit #1 without the bullet on November 17th. Gary and Dave toured with The Stampeders in 1973 to promote "Could You Ever Love Me Again," and their first album, and the single was released in twenty-two countries. It did particularly well in Australia. The pair had further hits with "I Fell In Love With You Sometime" and a cover of Carole King's "It Might As Well Rain Until September." They had six further singles through 1976, the last one on Polydor, and made two albums for Axe plus a Greatest Hits compilation. It was 1976 when Gary and Dave left the music business altogether to pursue careers in aviation. Both men had a long-standing love of flying, and both became pilots for Aitransit STOL Canada during a time in their career when they walked away from it the first time. After their official disbanding, both Gary and Dave went to work as pilots for Air Canada. Gary Weeks later became a pastor, and left Canada for Ireland, where he worked as a missionary. ![]() | Shirley Bassey As Long As He Needs Me & I Am What I Am An audience with Shirley Bassey. Filmed on Sept. 17 1995 and first broadcast on ITV in Oct 1995. This show is part of ITV's long running 'Audience With' series, where a celebrity entertains a studio full of other celebrities. Part 6. As Long As He Needs Me Written by Lionel Bart As Long As He Needs Me recorded: June 22, 1960 released: UK: July 1960 on Columbia single DB 4490 US: September 14, 1962 on United Artists single UA 511 charted: single UK: #2, August 4, 1960 Released in 1960 on a single and later on an EP. The single climbed to number two in the charts. The single stayed in the singles Top 50 charts for 30 consecutive weeks, one of the longest unbroken runs in UK singles chart history. It was her first hit single with Columbia Records, where she had signed 1959. Released in 1963 on the collection album Shirley Bassey Sings The Hit Song From OLIVER!. Also recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra on the album I Am What I Am. The song is available on CD on many collections, and from the 1960's to this day Shirley performs this song at many concerts, therefore there are many live recordings available too. This song is from the musical "Oliver!" written by Lionel Bart. The musical is based on the novel "Oliver Twist" by Charles Dickens. The premiere was on Thursday, June 30th, 1960 in the New Theatre in London. The film adaptation of Oliver! won six Oscars. Lionel Bart (his real name is Lionel Begleiter) was one of the best known composers of contemporary music. Bart disposed of the film and musical rights to Oliver! He sold them in 1973 - a decision that he thought had perhaps cost him £100 million. In 1994 Sir Cameron Mackintosh made a successful West End production of Oliver!. In the video An Audience With Shirley Bassey you can see Lionel Bart in the audience. Another song he had written was for example the title song of the second James Bond movie "From Russia With Love" (1963), performed by Matt Monroe. Other songs of Lionel Bart that Shirley Bassey has recorded are "Where is love" (also from "Oliver!") and "Far away" (from "Blitz"). Lionel Bart died on April 3rd 1999 of cancer. He bequeathed a quarter of all the income from his work to establish a charitable foundation, to which he has also given a quarter of his net estate. On the internet the following review of the 1962 Original Broadway Cast album of "Oliver!" was found: Lionel Bart's musical version of Oliver Twist, Charles Dickens's novel of Industrial Revolution London in the late 19th century, was far more entertaining than the subject matter would suggest. The show has Dickens's sad story of poverty and crime, but also one of the strongest scores heard on Broadway in the 60s - "I'd Do Anything," "Be Back Soon," "Oom-Pah-Pah," "As Long As He Needs Me" - in fact, it's one hit after another (no wonder this album reached #4 in the charts and went gold). And it has the incomparable Georgia Brown too. There was a studio drama behind this hit: Producer Norman Newell had booked the vast number one recording studio at EMI's Abbey Road for a Bassey recording session, and he and a large orchestra awaiting Shirley's arrival. When she failed to appear at the expected time Norman made a frantic phone call to Shirley's home to discover that she had completely forgotten about the recording session and had gone off to the cinema! Newell quickly arranged for every cinema in London's West End to 'page' the missing singer and soon afterwards a breathless Shirley arrived at Abbey Road. The Orchestra was booked till 5:30pm and she came rushing in at ten past five ... and gave one of the best recording performances of her career! Lyrics As longs as he needs me I know where I must be I'll cling on steadfastly As longs as he needs me As long as life is long I'll love him, right or wrong And somehow I'll be strong As long as he needs me If you are lonely then you will know When someone needs you you love them so I won't betray his trust Though people say I must I've got to stay true just As longs as he needs me If you are lonely then you will know When someone needs you you love them so I won't betray his trust Though people say I must I've got to stay true just As longs as he needs me (lyric provided by John Bol) |
![]() | Children of the corn (part 8 of 14) (John Franklin) Isaac Chroner was born, according to the age of the movie provided, September 19, 1973. As a young child, he developed a highly advanced vocabulary, was taught by the church how to preach, and stayed in the cornfields often. When he was only seven, he killed his parents and went to Gatlin, Nebraska through the cornfields, so as to not be disturbed. As time went by, people realized his mission: to rid the town of the adults who inhabit it and make way for the glorious coming of He Who Walks Behind The Rows, in order to fulfill the prophecy (see below). The original "giver of his word", he took over after the children of Gatlin began to see him as a leader figure, following him into the corn and listening to his preaching of He Who Walks Behind The Rows. Over a period of time, he authored THE BOOK OF DIVINE ENLIGHTENMENT, or as some say the Children of the Corn bible. Eventually, the children completely converted to his way of thinking, and murdered their own parents at his will. It was around this time that he made the prophecy that He Who Walks Behind the Rows will awaken when the daughter of the original chosen and the son of the original chosen provide a new generation of the chosen children. He's loyal to He Who Walks Behind The Rows, and typically obeys him. However, by the end of Children of the Corn Issac becomes power-hungry, and is struck down by his own God. After the events of the first film, the children of Gatlin manage to bring him into hiding, while preserving his status in critical care. When diagnosed, it was found that he had suffered two fractures to the head which required stitching, that his ankles and wrists were severely bruised, his arm joints were torn, and he'd shifted two plates in his back. He fell into a coma and woke up nineteen years later. He was determined to resurrect the corn religion, but couldn't successfully pull off all that was required of him, being weak and unwilling to meet the harsher demands of He Who Walks Behind The Rows. When he challenged He Who Walk Behind The Rows' demands, he was killed, with the coroner's report stating that the cause of death was heart organ failure due to stabbing and apparent blood lost. |
![]() | Ralph Tresvant vs Shanice - I Love Your Sensitivity Smile 1990's Smash "Sensitivity" by Ralph Tresvant (my fav member of New Edition) & the 1991's another Smash "I Love Your Smile" by Shanice remixed by me. Hope you'll enjoy with this smooooothhh video remix... Review Ralph Tresvant.- Ralph Tresvant, aka Rizz (born Ralph Edward Tresvant Jr., on May 16, 1968 in Roxbury, Massachusetts) is an American tenor singer, best known as one of the lead singers in R&B act New Edition. Tresvant sang lead on many of the New Edition lead singles including "Candy Girl", "Cool It Now" and "If It Isn't Love". Tresvant led the group from 1983 to 1989. Despite the success of groupmates Bobby Brown, Bell Biv DeVoe, and Johnny Gill, Tresvant was cautious about his own solo career. Signing to MCA Records, Tresvant let his apprehension be known in several interviews. Nevertheless, well-known producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were confident in his abilities after having worked with him on the album Heartbreak. They wrote the song "Sensitivity" for him which hit #1 on the R&B charts, #4 on the Hot 100 and it went gold. His self-titled album released shortly after in 1990 and went platinum as well, topping the R&B charts. The album scored two more hits with "Stone Cold Gentleman" reaching #3 on the R&B charts and "Do What I Gotta Do" which reached #2.("Sensitivity" was also peaked #18 at UK charts. Tresvant appeared in the movie House Party 2 in 1991 and the play, "The Man Of Her Dreams" in 2002. In 1993, he released his second album, It's Goin' Down. The album gave Tresvant greater involvement as he produced many of the tracks himself. However, perhaps due to limited promotion, the album failed to perform commercially as well as the debut. In October 2004 "Sensitivity" appeared in popular videogame Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, playing on R&B/Soul radio station CSR 103.9. On September 18, 2004 he married Amber Serrano. Tresvant will portray Reverend Winter in the 2008 film, Mama, I Want to Sing! starring pop-R&B singer Ciara. ____________________________________________ Review Shanice Wilson.- Shanice (born Shanice Lorraine Wilson on May 14, 1973 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is a Grammy Award nominated American R&B singer. Credited usually as simply Shanice, she hit big on mainstream radio with her 1991 hit "I Love Your Smile" for the Motown label, she also scored another Top 5 Billboard Hot 100 single in 1993 with "Saving Forever for You." Born in Pittsburgh, Shanice, before her teen years relocated to Los Angeles with her mother and aunt who were interested in pursuing careers in the music industry. Shanice's showmanship was evident from an early age and this move was also to benefit her career. Shanice's talent gave her the opportunity to star in a KFC commercial with the legendary Ella Fitzgerald at age nine. Later, she was discovered by A&M Records at the age of eleven, and released her debut album, Discovery in 1987, which wasn't a huge pop hit, but did score R&B chart action, and the singer a 1987 Soul Train Award nomination for Best R&B/Urban Contemporary New Artist; she lost the award to R&B singer Miki Howard. Shanice (A singer credited with a five octave vocal range. Soultrack.com in their biography states; she recorded her debut album for A&M Records, Discovery, at age 13. Despite her young age, Shanice showed an amazing vocal range (five octaves)went on to sign a record deal with Motown Records in 1991. Her 1991 album Inner Child which sold 1.1 million copies, includes the popular hit single "I Love Your Smile", produced by Narada Michael Walden. Also included on Inner Child is a cover of Minnie Riperton's 1974 hit "Lovin' You". This rendition helped to bring public attention to Shanice's ability to sing in high range as Minnie Riperton and Mariah Carey, the latter who at the start of the 90's had reintroduced the whistling technique into pop music. In 1993, she made a guest appearance on the popular television sitcom Family Matters. After Inner Child, Shanice continued to record albums, including 21... Ways to Grow in 1994 and 1999's Shanice sold a total of 500,000 copies, produced chiefly by Babyface. On this album Shanice broke a record with her single "When I Close My Eyes" . While she has not achieved significant commercial success with her later albums, she is acknowledged as a talented singer and many of her songs appeared on various soundtracks such as Boomerang (soundtrack), Beverly Hills 90210 and The Meteor Man. She also sings backup and does studio sessions and can be heard on Toni Braxton's song "Come On Over Here" and "Un-Break My Heart". She can also be heard making vocal contributions to various video games. She is married to actor/comedian Flex Alexander, with whom she has two children: daughter Imani Shekinah and son Elijah Alexander. Shanice also showed a new side to her talent in the late 90's when she played the role of Eponine in the broadway musical "Les Miserables" for a short run, for which she was given decent reviews. |
