![]() | palestinian outpost in E1 area - 8-12-07 Three Palestinians, five Israelis, and three international (Swedish) activists were forcibly evicted from a Palestinian house and arrested today in the E-1 area. They have now been taken to Ma'ale Adumim police station. Early this morning Palestinians built a house in the controversial E-1 area. Palestinians are routinely denied permits to build on their own land, and homes that have been built are demolished. The Human Rights activists stayed inside for a few hours before a large police and army presence evicted them through use of force. The E-1, or East-1 area, is between Ma'ale Adumim and Jerusalem, on lands from nearby Palestinian villages. The Israeli government plans to build a settlement of 3,500 apartments and an industrial park in this area. This will effectively connect the Ma'ale Adumim settlement with Occupied East Jerusalem, dividing the West Bank in two while separating Jerusalem from all of it. In addition land has recently been confiscated to build a road to connect the two Palestinian enclaves that will be created on both sides of the "settlement bloc". On September 24th, the Israeli army confiscated 1,100 dunums of Palestinian land to provide 'transportational contiguity' by building a Palestinian-only road through the E1 area. The settlement blocs will be annexed to Israel with territorial contiguity, while Palestinians must settle for a collection of tunnels and bridges that will allow them to drive between the separate enclaves of the West Bank. These Apartheid roads will be controlled by Israel for security reasons, and will further divide the future 'viable' Palestinian state on more confiscated lands. This Palestinian family is not the only one to be forced to leave their homes. The 2,700 strong Jahalin Bedouin community is also being driven out of the land they have lived on as refugees since they were forced to leave the Negev desert after the Nakba. Israel plans to displace the Bedouin onto lands belonging to the adjacent Palestinian villages. In some cases in the past, the Bedouin were forcibly displaced onto private properties belonging to the residents of these communities |
![]() | Los Angeles Film School History The Los Angeles Film School opened its doors to its first class on September 8, 1999. The school is located at 6363 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, California. Before becoming the home of The Los Angeles Film School, the building at 6363 was an RCA recording studio where it played host to artists such as Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, John Williams, Eartha Kitt, The Monkees, Jefferson Airplane, and Henry Mancini, among others. In 2001 Diana Derycz-Kessler, a Harvard Law graduate, took over its management[1] Academics The school teaches Producing, Directing, Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Sound Recording and Design and Screenwriting. The school stresses practical learning, giving video cameras to students the first week of the program, with which they create their first short film: a single set-up, minute long story. Students continue to produce increasingly more involved short film exercises, culminating in a thesis film project. Any student who wishes to make a short film as writer and or director will have this opportunity at the LAFS and every effort is made to give producers, editors, cinematographers, sound and production designers an opportunity to practice their craft on a student film production. The school stresses technical education and is equipped with 35 and 16mm film cameras, digital and High Definition digital Cameras, multiple AVID editing bays and advanced sound recording and mixing systems. The school is known in particular for its use of the High Definition digital format and its commitment to educating future cinematographers in the art and science of lighting for and using HD Digital Cameras. Students have 24 hour access to all post production facilities. The school has a 3800 square foot soundstage, with a two wall hard cycloramas for creating virtual sets, availble to be used with the schools cutting-edge Sony F-900 and XD PWF-350 High Definition cameras as well as film cameras including Arriflex 35BL's and 16SR's. Student films are screened in a 345-seat, stadium style, THX certified, Dolby Digital Surround EX, wide-screen motion picture theater equipped with both film and digital projection. Editing students utilize a dozen Avid Media Composer Adreniline and Nitris non-linear editing systems while sound design students use four Digidesign Pro Tools Mix workstations and finish on a 96-input Solid State Logic Axiom digital re-recording console (a first in the academic world). There is also a well-stocked equipment room of traditional filmmaking essentials-lights, dolly's, C-stands and much more. Students film on location around Los Angeles and in production areas at the Sunset campus. Each month, The Los Angeles Film School's Immersion Filmmaking Program offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a full-time hands-on training program, with courses focused on classroom environments as well as practical training courses which focus on hot set film production environments and hands-on post production environments. Student Life The Los Angeles Film School's campus is an urban one and does not have residential facilities. Instead, students either commute or rent nearby apartments. The program provides 1100 hours of instruction, with additional hours of out-of-class assignments and production.[3] Faculty Past and current LAFS instructors include Donn Cambern, editor of "The Last Picture Show" and "Romancing the Stone" (Oscar Nomination); Lawrence G. Paull, Production Designer of "Blade Runner" (Oscar Nomination) and "Back to the Future"; John Hora, Directory of Photography for "Gremlins" and "Honey, I Blew Up the Kid"; Ariel Levy, Line Producer for "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "Oliver!" and Anna Thomas, screenwriter of "El Norte" (Oscar Nomination) and "Frida". ![]() | Muslim Atrocity : Remember Beslan. http://www.beslanhope.org/beslan_art.htm No sound..but you can feel that sadness and loss Funerals on the Monday after the Beslan Massacre commited by Devout Muslims.. On this day 120 funerals took place, something western media forgot to report on... ====================================== The Beslan massacre of Christians began when a group of armed Muslims, demanding an end to the Second Chechen War, took more than 1,100 schoolchildren and adults hostage on September 1, 2004, at School Number One (SNO) in the town of Beslan, North Ossetia-Alania, an autonomous republic in the North Caucasus region of the Russian Federation. On the third day of the standoff, Russian security forces stormed the building using tanks, thermobaric rockets and other heavy weapons. A series of explosions shook the school, followed by a fire which engulfed the building and a chaotic gunbattle between the hostage-takers and Russian security forces. Ultimately, at least 334 hostages were killed, including 186 children.Hundreds more were wounded or missing. On the first day the Muslims took away any parents that looked capable of putting up a struggle, they took them to the corridor and executed them. ====================================== The children were hungry and thirsty. But were not allowed to drink water, they were told by the followers of the Koran (muslims) that they should drink their own urine. ======================================= Children were executed on whim women killed for nothing..men the same, if someone asked to go to the toilet they were escorted out towards the toilet and executed. ==================================== No Mercy was shown to anyone. ==================================== Arsen was only 14 years old when he was taken hostage. His friends remember him as a sincere, kind and helpful friend. Arsen was heavily involved in wrestling and other sports. He was the hope for his family since his brother, Ruslan, was paralyzed from birth. ===================================== As Arsen's friends say, he was less concerned about himself than about the younger kids in the gymnasium, saying: "I am already 14. I have lived my life, we really need to help the 7 and 8 year-old children". When Arsen was allowed to go to the washroom, he managed to wet his shirt with tap water which he smuggled back to the gymnasium. Once he returned back to the gym, he squeezed droplets into the hands and mouths of the little kids. After the first explosion, Arsen was alive and was on his way out through the window. Then, someone called him for help and he turned around...He never made it out again. ===================================== From the link above These pictures where drawn by 12-year old Zarina Kesaeva. The first picture, "Betrozovs and their father". It is a horrifying depiction of the tragedy of Zarina's uncle's family, one of the many Beslan families destroyed by this tragedy. The second pictures represent a "Bombs wireing plan". On September 1, 8th-grader Aslan, 9th-grader Alan, and their father, Ruslan, went together to the 1st day of school ceremony. Upon their arrival, the hostage taking began. At first, Alan managed to escape, but then returned to the school as he became aware that his father and brother were inside and was worried that they may need his help. =================================== Hostage reports indicate that a terrorist approached the area where the three of them were sitting back to back, and, without hesitation, shot the father at point blanc range in the neck. Soon after, Ruslan's body was thrown out of the window. Aslan and Alan witnessed their father's brutal murder, suffered through the hours without food or water, and then died in the attack. Aslan was initially considered lost, but recently his body was identified. This is the story of the drawing of Zarina Kesaeva, their cousin, a gentle 12 year-old girl who also witnessed the devastation of this family. ===================================== WHAT A WONDERFUL RELIGION ISLAM IS. MUSLIM WORLD LEADERS HAVE NEVER APOLOGIZED FOR THIS SICKENING ATTACK |
![]() | Misawa 1959 F-86 Sabre Misawa Air Base (三沢飛行場, Misawa Hikōjō?) (IATA: MSJ, ICAO: RJSM) is a United States air base located on the northeastern shores of Honshū, in the city of Misawa in Aomori Prefecture, in the Tōhoku Region of Japan. The base is home to 5,200 US military personnel, as well as 350 US civilian employees and 900 Japanese national employees. Misawa is the only combined, joint service installation in the western Pacific. It houses all four US military services (Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines) as well as the Japan Air Self Defense Force. Misawa also has scheduled civilian flights operated by Japan Airlines to Tokyo International Airport (Haneda), Osaka International Airport (Itami) and New Chitose Airport, making it one of the few joint civilian-military airports in the U.S. defense grid. The Misawa Passive Radio Frequency space surveillance site is used for tracking satellites using the signals they transmit. It also provides coverage of geosynchronous satellites using the Deep Space Tracking System (DSTS). It is one of the largest ECHELON ground stations. The American occupation of Misawa began in September 1945. Later, Army engineers restored the base for future use by the United States Army Air Forces. During the Korean War and Vietnam War Misawa supported fighter missions. The base was the launching point for clandestine surveillance overflights into China and the USSR during the 1950s. Misawa's fighters departed in 1972. In 1983 it was a major deployment site for rescue and recovery operations, following the downing of Korean Air Flight 007. On July 4, 1985, fighters returned to Misawa. The North American F-86 Sabre (sometimes called the Sabrejet) was a transonic combat aircraft developed for the US Air Force. The F-86 was developed in the 1940s following the end of World War II and was one of the most-produced western jet fighters in the Cold War era.By the end of hostilities, F-86 pilots claimed to have shot down 792 MiGs for a loss of only 76 Sabres, a victory ratio of 10 to 1 (but now appears to be closer to 4 to 1 with postwar totals offically credited by the USAF at 379 kills for 103 Sabres lost). Nonetheless, in the hands of skillful pilots, the Sabre's kill ratio over the MiG-15 was impressive. Of the 40 pilots to earn the designation of "ace" (five or more kills) during the Korean war, all but one flew the F-86 Sabre. The F-86 entered service with the United States Air Force in 1949, joining the 1st Fighter Wing's 94th Fighter Squadron "Hat-in-the-Ring" and became the primary air-to-air jet fighter used in the Korean War. With the introduction of the Soviet Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 into air combat in November 1950, in which it out-performed all aircraft then assigned to the United Nations, three squadrons of F-86s were rushed to the Far East in December. The F-86 could out turn and out dive the MiG-15, but the MiG-15 was slightly superior to the F-86 in ceiling, acceleration, rate of climb, and zoom (until the introduction of the F-86F in 1953)and flown from bases in Manchuria by Soviet VVS pilots, was pitted against two squadrons of the 4th Fighter-Interceptor Wing forward-based at K-14, Kimpo, Korea. * Crew: 1 * Length: 37 ft 6 in (11.4 m) * Wingspan: 37 ft 1 in (11.3 m) * Height: 14 ft 8 in (4.5 m) * Wing area: ft² (m²) * Empty weight: lb (kg) * Loaded weight: 13,791 lb (6,300 kg) * Powerplant: 1× General Electric J47 turbojet, 5,200 lbf (24 kN) * Zero-lift drag coefficient: 0.0132 * Drag area: 3.8 ft² (0.35 m²) * Aspect ratio: 4.78 * Maximum speed: 685 mph (595 knots, 1,100 km/h) * Range: 1,200 mi (1,000 nm, 1,900 km) * Service ceiling: 49,000 ft (14,900 m) * Rate of climb: 7,250 ft/min (36.8 m/s) * Thrust/weight: 0.38 * Lift-to-drag ratio: 15.1 * Time to altitude: 6.3 min to 30,000 ft (9,145 m) (C)Steve conley |
![]() | HAF The Hellenic Air Force(HAF)(Greek: Πολεμική Αεροπορία (ΠΑ), Polemikí Aeroporía) is the air force of Greece. The mission of the Hellenic Air Force is to guard and protect the Greek airspace, provide air assistance and support to the Hellenic Army and the Hellenic Navy as well as humanitarian aid (upon request) in Greece and around the world. During the period of monarchy (1935-1973) the force was known as the Hellenic Royal Air Force. The motto of the Hellenic Air Force is "Αίεν Υψικρατείν" meaning "Always Dominate the Heights" and the HAF ensign represents a flying eagle in front of the Hellenic Air Force roundel. The Hellenic Air Force is one of the three branches of the Hellenic Armed Forces. The Hellenic Air Force is overseen by the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence, whose current head is minister Vangelis Meimarakis. More specifically, HAF is directly overseen by the Hellenic National Defence General Staff. The Hellenic Air Force includes approximately 33,000 active troops, of whom 11,750 are carrier officers, 14,000 are professional conscripts, 7,250 are volunteer conscripts and 1,100 are women. The three commands are the Tactical Air Command, headquartered at Larisa, the Air Support Command and the Air Training Command, both based in Athens. The Tactical Air Command includes eight Combat Wings and one Transport Wing. The Combat Wings have six fighter ground-attack squadrons. There are ten fighter squadrons, one regular reconnaissance squadron, and one marine reconnaissance squadron. Three transport squadrons and two helicopter squadrons form the organization of the air portion of the Tactical Air Command. The Air Training Command includes four training squadrons. The eight major H.A.F. installations are located in Larisa, Nea Ankhialos southeast of Larisa, Elefsis, west of Athens, Thessaloniki, Tanagra, north of Athens, Souda Bay, Araxos in the northern Peloponnese, and Andravida. Other airports supporting military operations are located in the Aegean Islands of Karpathos, Santorini (Thira), Rhodes, Skyros, and Lemnos as well as in Kavala, Heraklion, and Tatoi/Dekeleia, north of Athens. * Combat operations are overseen by the Chief of Operations of the Supreme Air Force Council. * Support services are managed by the Directorate of Aeronautical Support of the Air Force Support Command. * The training squadrons and air force schools, like the "Icarus Air Force Academy" and the "School of Advanced War Training", run by the Training Directorate of the Air Force Training Command. Greece participated in NATO "nuclear weapons sharing" until 2001, using A-7 Corsair IIs to deploy tactical B61 nuclear warheads from Araxos Air Base. Greece then strategically decided to remove all nuclear weapons under storage in Greece and did not purchace any more aircraft with nuclear mounting capabilities. f-4 phantom aup peace icarus In September 2004 started the Mirage 2000BG/EG fleet upgrade to the standard 2000-5 Mk2 and the project was undertaken by the French manufacturer Dassault and the Hellenic Aerospace Industry.Fifteen aircraft were ordered, while ten more were undertaken for upgrade by Dassault and EAB. The enhancements include upgraded radar and avionics, air-refueling capabilities, new self-defense system and upgraded engine, while the cockpit has taken some serious reforms. In 2005, Greece was among the first countries to add the F-16 Block 52+ to its inventory. Ninety of these 4.5th generation aircraft were ordered and delivery begun the same year. This advanced F-16 type is an improved version of the Block 50 featuring a more powerful radar, better communications systems and an upgraded engine. The Hellenic Air Force's Block 52+ belong to the 337, 340 and 343 Squadrons with call signs "Ghost", "Fox" and "Star" respectively. 337 SQ is based at Larissa Air Force Base (110 Combat Wing) and the other two in Souda AB (115 CW). In 2007, the Hellenic Air Force has a total fighter fleet of 275 modern or upgraded aircraft and due to retirement of units that have ended their circle of operation, is looking forward to acquiring new 4th, 4.5th or 5th generation fighters in order to reach a total number of 300 advanced fighters, according to the "2007 Supreme Air Force Council Momentum" published in 2007. Such goal is to be gradually reached until 2015. Prime candidates for a 4.5th or 5thgeneration aircraft, of which acquisition is considered certain, are the Eurofighter Typhoon, F-35 Lightning II (JSF) and Dassault Rafale. extra tags ; mirage 2000 mirage 2000-5 f16 f-16 block 50 52 52+ 30 40 f-4 f-4e rf-4 f4 f4e rf4 phantom falcon viper a-7 a7 corsair dassault vought patriot s-300 osa tor sa-8 dogfight aegean haf hellenic air force greece greek army hellas vtr avtr hud jhmc cft tanks iris t iris-t aim-9 amraam mica bomb run napalm mk-84 scrable readiness |

Light, sweet crude for October delivery settled $1.16, or 1%, higher at $116.27 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude on the ICE futures exchange settled at $114.63 a barrel, up 60 cents. After strengthening from tropical storm status overnight, Hurricane Gustav made landfall on Haiti Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center reported, with maximum sustained winds near 90 mph. Traders pondered whether it could eventually strike the U.S. Gulf Coast, home to 40% of U.S. refining capacity and a quarter of the nation's crude production. "We're going to see the market ebb and flow and see the expansion and contraction of the storm premium this week until we get a clearer idea of the path of this storm," said Jim Ritterbusch, president of Ritterbusch and Associates, an energy trading advisory firm. The hurricane center warned the storm could reach the Gulf of Mexico by 8 a.m. Sunday. Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSA) said personnel evacuations from the Gulf could start as early as Wednesday as Gustav heads northwest through the Caribbean Sea. Shell reported no impact on production. Adding support to crude futures was Russia's recognition of the breakaway Georgian provinces of South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states, a move that prompted protests among Western leaders. Russia is the world's second-largest exporter of crude oil. "The strength in crude today was precipitated primarily by Gustav, and secondarily on Russian geopolitical concerns," said Kyle Cooper, director of research at IAF Advisors in Houston. Cooper said new private forecasts indicated Hurricane Gustav now appears more likely to miss the U.S.'s coastal energy installations, helping damp an earlier rally that took Nymex crude prices to $117.89 a barrel. Oil remains pressured as triple-digit prices weigh on demand. The Energy Information Administration reported revised data Tuesday showing that U.S. oil demand in June was 5.6% lower than a year before. At 1.17 million barrels a day, that's the weakest June consumption since 1998. A unit of MasterCard Inc. (MA) reported that last week U.S. gasoline demand measured by purchases at the pump rose 1.3%, to 9.579 million barrels a day, but it was down 2.9% from a year ago. Traders' focus is likely to shift to weekly EIA oil inventory data due at 10:35 a.m. EDT Wednesday. Analysts surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires on average predict crude stockpiles rose by 1.0 million barrels the week ended Aug. 22, while gasoline stockpiles fell 2.5 million barrels and stocks of distillates, which include heating oil and diesel, rose by 600,000 barrels. The rate of refinery use is seen rising 0.1 percentage point to 85.8% of capacity. Front-month September reformulated gasoline blendstock, or RBOB, rose 8.74 cents, or 3%, to settle at $2.9697 a gallon. September heating oil climbed 5.85 cents, or 1.9%, to $3.2099 a gallon.
