SEVERNA PARK HIGH SCHOOL

'Severna Park High School' is a public high school located in Severna Park, Maryland. It is a part of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools system. It's current feeder school is Severna Park Middle School. The Falcons are rivals with the nearby Broadneck High School Bruins. The school opened its doors to students in 1963.
The principal is Mr. Jason Dykstra. Dr. Hamilton announced his resignation in the late 2006-2007 school year.
Severna Park High has gained a strong reputation in Anne Arundel County for its consistent success in academics and athletics. The school's field hockey team, state champions in 2006, has been one of the nation's top teams for decades, and holds the record for most championship titles in the entire state of Maryland.. The school has also gained a strong reputation for Rock N Roll Revival, an annual stage production that occurs in March consisting of students (and some staff) performing classic rock songs. The show has a band, singers, dancers, and a tech crew that almost entirely composed of SPHS students. In 2007, the show's 18th year, six of seven shows sold out.

★ 2007 marked the first time that both the Boys' and Girls' lacrosse team won the State Championship in the same year

Incidents

★ In June 2007, the incoming freshmen class of 2011 at Severna Park High School in Severna Park, MD were used by the upperclassmen by mocking the 1993 movie Dazed and Confused using lacrosse sticks to whip the incoming freshmen which parents were asked to ride school busses to prevent any more harm by the high schoolers (June 16, 2007 The Maryland Gazette).

★ In May 2007, several students cheated on Advance Placement testing which they caused a stir not only in Severna Park, but around the county by acquiring the placement answers while the testing people were not in the room giving the test forcing the student body to retake the test on May 24, 2007 (May 22, 2007 Baltimore Sun).

★ In March 2007, then-Boys Lacrosse coach Jim Beardmore took his team to the Sandy Point State Park for the annual water winter dip without the principal's approval in January 2007 to give the team spirit for the upcoming year in lacrosse. He resigned from the job and accepted another job with the Denver Outlaws while his Boys Lacrosse team were able to win another state title in lacrosse after his departure.
