SHABEELLAHA HOOSE

Location of Shabeellaha Hoose in Somalia

'Lower Shabele' (Somali: 'Shabeellaha Hoose'; ) is an administrative region (''gobolka'') in southern Somalia. Until 1984, when the regions were reshaped, it was part of the larger Benadir region and its capital was Mogadishu, but is now Marka.
Shabeellaha Hoose is bordered by the Somali regions of Banaadir, Shabeellaha Dhexe, Hiiraan, Bay and Middle Juba and the Indian Ocean. After Mogadishu, this is thought to be the region with the most population in Somalia.
It is named after the Shebelle River, which passes through the region.
