History

Shortland Street Hospital has changed over the times to reflect changes in the New Zealand health system.
When ''Shortland Street'' commenced, the hospital was known as the 'Shortland Street Medical Centre'. In 2000, it became a public hospital. It received another upgrade in 2007, becoming the new-look hospital it is now.

Floors

According to the lift buttons, Shortland Street Hospital has seven floors. Since 2007, each floor is colour-coded with a different colour.
'Ground Floor' is coloured orange, and contains the main entrance, reception desk, and the emergency department.
Other commonly seen floors are the second floor (coloured green), which contains the nurses' station, and the fourth floor (coloured yellow).

Administration

Shortland Street Hospital, like all New Zealand public hospitals, is managed by a district health board (DHB). Shortland Street is run by the same DHB as "Central".
Although not mentioned, Central is North Shore City Hospital building, therefore Shortland Street is managed by the Auckland District Health Board.
