History
The ''Silver Star'' was originally a service of the Seaboard Air Line Railroad, running from New York to Miami and later also St. Petersburg (beyond Tampa). It was inaugurated December 12, 1947 to replace the ''Advance Silver Meteor''.
Until November 1, 2004 the ''Silver Star'' bypassed Tampa, which was served by the ''Palmetto''. The ''Palmetto'' was truncated to Savannah, Georgia at that time, and the ''Silver Star'' was rerouted to serve Tampa. The former segment of ''Palmetto'' between Jacksonville and Lakeland is now served by a Thruway Motorcoach bus connection to the ''Silver Star''.
