SIMON BIRMINGHAM

'Simon John Birmingham' (born 14 July 1974 in Adelaide, South Australia), Australian politician, is a Senator for South Australia, nominated by the Liberal Party under Section 15 of the Australian Constitution to fill the Senate seat left vacant following the death of Senator Jeannie Ferris in April 2007. He is the youngest member of the Australian Senate at the age of 32.[1]
Until his nomination for the Senate, Birmingham was an executive for the Winemakers Federation of Australia.
He had previously run as the Liberal candidate for the Australian House of Representatives seat of Hindmarsh in the 2004 federal election, but lost to the ALP's Steve Georganas. Birmingham had been preselected to contest Senator Ferris's seat at the next general election (she had announced her retirement), but then entered the Senate earlier as the result of her unexpected death.
