Politics
Sioux County traditionally has been one of the counties in the nation most loyal to the Republican Party. In the 2004 presidential election, residents voted for George W. Bush over John Kerry by 14,229 to 2,259 vote margin - the largest margin of any county in Iowa. Local political custom dictates that the "real" election is the Republican primary. Having won that the nominee runs virtually unopposed in the November election. A large contributing factor to this dedication to the Republican party is the county's roots of moral and financial conservatism. This moral conservatism is the butt of some jokesters in neighboring Lyon and O'Brien counties, who call Sioux County "the Holy Land."
Higher Education
Sioux County is the home to two 4 year liberal arts colleges; Northwestern College in Orange City and Dordt College in Sioux Center. Both of these schools have enrollments over 1,000. Northwest Iowa Community College is also in Sioux County though it is most often associated with community of Sheldon in O'Brien County.
