SOCIETY OF ILLUSTRATORS
The 'Society of Illustrators' is a professional society based in New York City, founded in 1901. Other major chapters are in Los Angeles and San Diego. The Society is known for its historic East Side New York headquarters (with huge originals by Maxfield Parrish and others on the walls of its spacious dining room), its excellent gallery exhibitions, and prestigious annual contest. The Society contributed to US war efforts in both world wars with massive poster campaigns, including James M. Flagg's US Army recruiting poster of Uncle Sam.
