SOUTH AUSTRALIAN HOUSING TRUST
The 'South Australian Housing Trust' was an agency of the Government of South Australia responsible for providing low-cost housing to people who could not afford other kinds of housing. It was founded in 1936 and was the first housing authority in Australia.
It became part of the Department for Families and Communities on 1 July 2004. Previously it was under the control of the former Department of Human Services. On 3 July 2006, the South Australian Housing Trust became 'Housing SA' as part of a major restructure of the Department for Families and Communities.
