Current status

South County is designated to serve grades 7-12, similar to its mother school Hayfield from which many of its students were drawn. In order to prevent disruption in students' senior years, 2005-06 seniors were allowed to remain at Hayfield, Lake Braddock Secondary School, Lee High School, or other secondary school they were currently enrolled in to finish their secondary education and maintain continuity during the college application process. South County will remain a secondary school until a new middle school is built to take away its 7th and 8th graders, at which point it will become a high school.

Academic programs

SCSS has the following FCPS Programs:

Advanced Placement Diploma (AP)

Career and Transition Services

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Sports teams at South County, although not very successful on the whole in their inaugural year, have made excellent progress and achieved a number of accolades. The cross country teams went to regionals, and Madeleine Willner made it to the state meet as a freshman. The football team, despite their previous record of only one win, went on to win at least a few games. Baseball won districts during the first year and now they are tied for first.
As well, DECA sent members to the international competition in Florida.
In their first Cappies Musical at South County, "Thoroughly Modern Millie" received 12 nominations, and 4 wins, including Best Musical and Best Actress.
