SOUTH OXHEY

'South Oxhey' is a place in the Three Rivers district of Hertfordshire, England. It is also served by Watford Rural Parish Council. It is located at and forms part of the Watford post town. It is the location of Oxhey Woods[1].
South Oxhey is a large estate mainly made up of council built properties with some small private developments mixed in. Roughly half of the properties remain council owned. It was built in the 1940s for the over spill of war torn (World War II) London. South Oxhey (when built) was originally LCC (London County Council) then became GLC (Greater London Council).
During the 1960's, 70's and 80's, it's noted that the estate had a particular vibrant energy generated by the area's youngsters wholesale adoption of the youth cults of the times; from the mods, through punk, and onto skinhead culture.

Rose Wright also author of ''Goodnight Children Everywhere'', writes of life as a 6-13 year old during the war. Living in Islington, watching her house get bombed, her friends dying, rations and community. Also being left for dead herself, when her own house was hit by a bomb.
