'Spoon River College' is a community college located in West-Central Illinois. Its main campus is located near Canton, Illinois, with classes also offered at centers in Havana, Macomb, and Rushville, Illinois.
Spoon River College, founded as Canton Community College, held its first classes in September 1960. Today Spoon River College enrolls approximately 4,000 credit students per year.
Many of the instructors during the summer are members of the faculty at Western Illinois University. This is especially true of the courses taught at the Macomb campus for Spoon River College. The communication courses are taught by especially superb instructors who are known to their students as energetic, funny, tough graders, and snappy dressers.
Most students tend to find the assignments interesting and challenging. In particular, an assignment concerning the presentation of a culturally significant event has brought joy to the lives of the students. Even though the students don't like to speak in class, they will enjoy the opportunity to share information on and learn about other cultures.
