(Redirected from Sport Chek)
'Sport Chek' (TSX: FGL) is the largest Canadian retailer of sporting clothing, sports equipment and equipment repair, with over 100 stores across the Canadian provinces excluding Quebec. Sportchek operates 201 corporate stores under the banners Sport Chek, Sport Mart, Coast Mountain and National Sports. It is also franchisor of 160 stores under the banners Sports Experts, Intersport, Atmosphere, RnR, Tech Shop, Econosports and Nevada Bob's. It is wholly owned by The Forzani Group Limited. The corporate headquarters are located in Calgary, Alberta.
On July 6 2004, Sport Chek agreed to pay $1.7 million dollars to the Competition Bureau of Canada for deliberately misleading consumers about sale prices. "After conducting a search at FGL headquarters in Calgary, the Competition Bureau concluded that FGL had significantly inflated the "regular" prices of certain products thereby overstating the savings to consumers at the so-called "sale" prices at its Sport Chek and Sport Mart stores." ([Compeition Bureau of Canada])
