Extensive damage had been done to the kitchen facilities and drama department of the school in October 2005. Pupils and staff were given the day off while the fire brigade fought the blaze, and teachers attempted to salvage anything of value. The fire started approximately 7:30 in the kitchen.Mr John Fitzpatrick has said that this was set by some young children who have the "NED FACTOR".
Consequently, the Drama department had to be temporarily relocated to two English classrooms, while a new temporary dining hall was created in the smaller of the two gym halls.
In April 2007, the downstairs regeneration had been fully completed, and both the drama department and kitchen had been relocated back to their original locations. The layout of the kitchen is the same, although there is a plasma screen on one of the walls of the dining hall and kitchen appliances are new. The drama department's design varies slightly, with a brand new classroom (previously the office, toilets, make-up room, and cloakroom), a new make-up room (previously the storage cupboard), a new office (previously the small classroom), and completely revamped studio and technical room. Mrs Amanda Gracie, head of the creative arts department in St Luke's has commented that she is very pleased with the new area, and all classes have resumed as normal downstairs.
The higher, advanced higher and intermediate classes sat their final exams in May 2007, and were the first to do so since the department's make over. The new classes for '07 to '08 have been actively timetabled as of June 2007.
Towards the end of August, the head boy and girl campaigns were coming to a close. All candidates successfully gave their speeches to the senior school and completed an interview with the head teacher. Matthew O'Donnell (O'Dee) was defeated by a Jewish Boy Jack Jordan, though the ballot was a 'fix'. As the school has had a re-election the new headboy has been announced as Matthew O'Donnell.
Mr John Fitzpatrick has recently returned to St Luke's After Deciding that Williamwood High School was not as good as St Luke's. Mrs Patricia Scott has recently been asked to leave the school and to retire her position as head teacher.
As a result of this Craig Martin has now been made Headteacher of Williamwood High School. Craig Martin has commented on his great plesure of being given this high school saying " I always knew that i would become headteacher of Williamwood ".
The school is subdivided into departments, each with their own subjects. Some (such as English, Computing and Drama) have specific SQA courses with awards; others are more personal subjects with no awards (such as Religious, Personal Social and Health, and core Physical Education).
