STAPENHILL

'Stapenhill' is an area and civil parish in Burton upon Trent. Stapenhill was a small village owned by Nigel of Stafford in 1086''Domesday Book: A Complete Translation''. London: Penguin, 2003. ISBN 0-14-143994-7 p.1406.
The village of Stapenhill has long since been surrounded by new developments.
Stapenhill Gardens is the epitome of Stapenhill. Its main feature is a gigantic model swan with flowers planted in it. This represents the gardens' main inhabitants, the swans. In a similar vein, the local football team is known as ''The Stapenhill Swans''. Stapenhill Gardens is also the location of the annual "Tulip Festival."
Major pubs in the area include ''The Copper Hearth'', ''The Punch Bowl'', ''The Barley Mow'' and ''The Elms''.
Other local features include a Church of England church and a cemetery. The main Secondary Schools in the area are Paulet High School, and Robert Sutton Catholic High School.
The village is east of the Trent, and thus was administered as part of Derbyshire from at least 1086 until the Local Government Act 1888.
