ALABAMA STATE ROUTE 55
(Redirected from State Route 55 (Alabama))
'Alabama State Route 55' is a 47-mile long route in the southern part of the state. The southern terminus of the route is at the Florida-Alabama state line, where the route continues as an extension of Florida State Road 85. The northern terminus of the route is at a junction with U.S. Route 31 at McKenzie in southern Butler County.
State Route 55 is a continuation of a route leading northward from Fort Walton Beach and Crestview, Florida. It enters the state at the border town of Florala. As the route heads towards Andalusia, it passes through the Conecuh National Forest.
The route junctions U.S. Routes 29 and 84 at Andalusia, creating a brief wrong-way concurrency, as southbound U.S. 29 shares the same route as northbound State Route 55, as well as westbound U.S. 84. State Route 55 and U.S. 84 are concurrent as they lead northwestwardly from Andalusia. At the small community of River Falls, State Route 55 splits from U.S. 84 and heads northward towards McKenzie, where it reaches its terminus at a junction with U.S. Route 31. Motorists can then continue towards Montgomery and Birmingham via U.S. 31 and State Route 106, which connects U.S. 31 with Interstate 65.
