VIRGINIA STATE ROUTE 65
(Redirected from State Route 65 (Virginia))
'State Route 65' is a primary state highway in the southwest part of the U.S. state of Virginia, running from near Clinchport to Banners Corner. Despite running more east-west than north-south, it is signed north-south; it parallels the similarly-oriented State Route 71, U.S. Route 11, and Interstate 81.
Most of SR 65 runs alongside the Clinchfield Railroad (now a CSX Transportation line) and the Clinch River.
;Scott County
SR 65 begins at U.S. Route 23/U.S. Route 58/U.S. Route 421 just west of Clinchport, and heads northeast along an old alignment of US 23/58/421 into Clinchport. At Clinchport, the Clinch River and Clinchfield Railroad, which follow US 23/58/421 to the south, turn to follow SR 65 in a general east-northeasterly direction. Following this path, SR 65 passes Carter Ferry, Hill, Starnes, Kerns, Fort Blackmore (where State Route 72 joins from the south and State Route 619 heads north), Wood, and Clinch to the town of Dungannon (where SR 72 splits to the north). East of Dungannon, SR 65 leaves the Clinch River and railroad for smaller creeks, including Sinking Creek, to the south.
;Russell County
Still heading in a general east-northeasterly direction, SR 65 enters Russell County. It quickly leaves Sinking Creek and crosses a summit into a flatter area. The road passes Mew before ending at U.S. Route 58 Alternate at Banners Corner; State Route 683 continues east and south along the old alignment of the road that became US 58 Alternate.
