STATE SECURITY AGENCY OF THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS

Crest of KGB Belarus

'The State Security Agency of the Republic of Belarus' (, ) is that country's intelligence agency. It is the only intelligence agency in Belarus that kept the Russian name KGB after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. (The "Special Riot Police," however, are still called OMON.)
It is the successor organization to the KGB of the Soviet Union. Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky, who founded the Cheka (the original Bolshevik secret police) was born in what is now Belarus and remains a national hero.
Major General Yuri Jadobin (who was in charge of Lukashenko's security) was appointed its leader in July 2007. The KGB is formally controlled by the president, Alexander Lukashenko.
