STEINERT HIGH SCHOOL
'Steinert High School' (also called 'Hamilton High School East') is a four year comprehensive public high school, one of three secondary high schools that are part of the Hamilton Township Public Schools, located in Hamilton Township in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The other high schools in the district are Nottingham High School (Hamilton High School North) and Hamilton High School (Hamilton High School West). The school mascot is the Spartan.
As of the 2004-05 school year, the high school had 400 students in 9th grade, 429 students in 10th grade, 377 students in 11th grade, 333 students in 12th grade, and 30 ungraded students. With 1569 students and 101.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), the school had a student-teacher ratio of 15.4.[1]
Steinert offers Advanced Placement Program (AP) courses in AP United States History, AP European History, AP Computer Science, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP English Literature and Composition, AP United States Government and AP Calculus.
The Steinert High School Spartans compete in the thirteen-member Colonial Valley Conference. Steinert has achieved athletic success in Cross country running (boys), soccer (boys and girls), and baseball.
Steinert's 1966 Football team (9-0-0) will go down in Mercer County history as one of the best.
The baseball team reached its pinnacle in 2000 and 2001, featuring three top-flight pitchers and rising to a nationally-ranked status. The 2006 baseball team won the Central, Group IV title, defeating South Brunswick High School 11-4 in the tournament final.[2] The team then moved on to win the state Group IV championship, defeating Randolph High School 4-1 in the final game.[3] The 2007 team won the Central, Group IV state sectional championship with a 5-0 win over Hillsborough High School.[4]
The girls' softball team won the 2004 NJSIAA Group IV State Championship.[5]
Steinert High School is home to two jazz bands: The Jazz Band, and Jazz Ensemble. Both compete regularly during the jazz season.
Both bands attended the Berklee College High School Jazz Band Competition. The Jazz Band placed 4th in the first division, and the Jazz Ensemble was in a non-competing division. In addition, the Jazz Band placed 2nd in the NJ-IAJE Division II State Finals and was the Cavalcade of Bands Co-Champion in 2007.
The school's marching band, run by director Stephanie Giunta, and secondary, or assistant director Michael Anzuini, was Tournament of the Bands Chapter One Champions in 1981 (Group 3) and 1983 (Group 2).[6]
The Steinert Marching Unit won their first "Superior" rating in 10 years at the William Tennant band competition on October 21, 2006, and was ranked 3rd in the state.
