In 2002, former high school phenom and current NBA superstar LeBron James came to Stow High School for a preseason basketball scrimmage, and made headlines and Stow made ESPN highlights as King James slammed one down and brought the rim completely off the backboard, falling hard to the court to the amazement and delight of all who witnessed this.
Also, the school's chapter of the Ohio Junior Classical League has won first place overall at the state level for 28 consecutive years, led by Latin teacher Mr. Thomas McCaffrey and his wife, Elizabeth, who have both recently retired.
