SULAK RIVER


The 'Sulak' () is a river in Dagestan, Russia. It starts at the confluence of the Avar Koisu and the Andi Koisu rivers. It bed comes throw the Main Sulak Canyon (700-1500 m deep), Akhetl, Chirkei gorges and the Minor Sulak Canyon. Then it comes to the wide valley and forms a delta, flowing into the Caspian Sea.
Sulak's water is used for the water-supply of Makhachkala and Kaspiysk. Sulak's waters generate electricity in a series of hydroelectric power stations, Miatl, Chiryurt, Chirkei and Bavtugai with total power 1345.6 MW.
