SULLIVAN COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA
'Sullivan County' is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of 2000, the population is 6,556. Sullivan County was created on March 15, 1847 from part of Lycoming County and named for General John Sullivan. Its county seat is Laporte6.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,172 km² (452 mi²). 1,165 km² (450 mi²) of it is land and 6 km² (2 mi²) of it (0.53%) is water.

Recreation
There are two Pennsylvania state parks in Sullivan County.
★ Part of Ricketts Glen State Park is in the eastern portion of the county.
★ Worlds End State Park is near Forksville on Loyalsock Creek
There are several festivities held in the county each year.
Dushore Founder's Day- Held in August. Activities such as Outhouse Races, Roll-a-Keg Races, Arts and Crafts, and vendors.
Dushore Dairy Parade- Held in Mid-June. Activities such as Milking a Cow.
Laporte Fireman's Carnival- Held in August. Carnival rides and games.
Sullivan County Fair- Held in Late August and Early September. Carnival rides and games, exhibitions, competitions, Demolition Derby, and vendors.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 6,556 people, 2,660 households, and 1,752 families residing in the county. The population density was 6/km² (15/mi²). There were 6,017 housing units at an average density of 5/km² (13/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 95.58% White, 2.20% Black or African American, 0.76% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.46% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 1.10% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 2,660 households out of which 24.20% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.70% were married couples living together, 6.80% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.10% were non-families. 29.30% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.20% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.81.
In the county, the population was spread out with 20.80% under the age of 18, 7.90% from 18 to 24, 24.10% from 25 to 44, 25.30% from 45 to 64, and 21.90% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 102.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.40 males.
