SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

'Swinburne University of Technology' is a university based in a number of campuses in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia.
In addition to degree programs at Bachelor, Masters and Doctoral levels, the University also operates as a technical college (through its TAFE Division), offering Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, and Associate Degree programs.

History

Swinburne was established as the Eastern Suburbs Technical College by George Swinburne in 1908. By 1913, the institution had changed its name to Swinburne Technical College.
Due to the 1976-78 reorganisation of the Victorian Post-Secondary Education Act, Swinburne was conferred the power to grant bachelor degrees. The first of these were granted in 1981. Swinburne was proclaimed a University of Technology on July 1, 1992.

Research

Swinburne University operates research programs in several areas. As a medium sized university, Swinburne has adopted a strategy to seek excellence in a limited number of areas. The University is strong in specialised areas of science and technology, such as radio astronomy, astrophysics, reliable software systems, service oriented computing, photonics & optics, social research, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, psychology and molecular simulation.
The Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing is one of Australia's leading astronomy research groups. Swinburne has focused on building a strong research base that utilises collaborative and applied research. The University's research profile has grown significantly over the last few years and has displayed its growing international eminence.

Campuses

Swinburne's presence extends to campuses in numerous parts of Victoria including Hawthorn, Croydon, Prahran, Lilydale, Wantirna, and Healesville. Outside of Australia, Swinburne also has a foreign campus in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.

The Hawthorn campus is located close to Glenferrie Train Station and Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn. It is home to both Higher Education and TAFE divisions, offering courses in fields including business, arts, science, and engineering.

Lilydale campus

Prahran campus

The Prahran campus is located near the corner of Chapel and High Streets in Prahran. The campus is also the home of Swinburne's Faculty of Design. Several other vocational schools, such as Hospitality, Film & TV, Performance, Costume and much more. The campus library has a special design collection.

Wantirna campus

Sarawak campus

The Sarawak campus is Swinburne's first/only overseas campus based in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. It offers the same courses as the Australian campuses and the degrees offered are identical to the Australian ones.
