TVN (CHILE)
'National Television of Chile (TVN)' (''Televisión Nacional de Chile'') is Chile's state-owned television station. Its first broadcast was on 1969. It is owned, but not funded, by the state, and functions independently from it; a rare case of public television in South America.

Controversy
The TV station known as TVN is the perfect example of the would be hidden face of "Latino-America" were not of reality, this station as many others pursues an attempt to modify the national perception of it's racial make up and it's unconscious association between caucasian's and success. Hiring predominantly people of European decent, rarely showing people with Chileno(mestizo) features, even if this has improved since 2003 with the advent of the nature-program ''Frútos del Pais'', which shows many indigienous Chileans.
Normally referred as leftist or ''red'' by its detractors, TVN is regarded by its opponents as having a light view of public issues that can be harmful to the government image. It is also regarded, along with Canal 13, as a main supporter of the Pinochet dictatorship, specially because of its state ownership status.
