'Taghazout' (pronounced Tarazoot) is a small port some 12 miles north of
Agadir city in south west Morocco. The local inhabitants are mainly
Berber in origin. Fishing and the production of
Argan oil are the main source of income. A developing tourist industry promises to increase the wealth of the area. A beach just south of the village became famous in the late 1960s and 70's as an
Hippy destination similar to that of beaches in
Goa India. Sometimes, several hundred would be resident in makeshift buildings, tents, dugouts and camper vans. Surfing is now more the common theme (
Anchor point being just north) along with RV's and motor caravans.
