TALES FROM THE NEVERENDING STORY

'Tales from the Neverending Story' is a television mini-series that is loosely based on Michael Ende's novel ''The Neverending Story'', produced and distributed by Muse Entertainment, and aired on HBO in 2001. The mini-series was aired as 4 episodes in the US and 13 episodes in the UK. The series was released on DVD in 2001.
The miniseries was a re-imagining or "reboot" of the Neverending Story series with the overall story being even more divergent from Michael Ende's novel than the motion pictures had been. Only a few very basic plot points of the original story have been left intact. Throughout the first half of the series there are two storylines occurring in tandem: Atreyu's adventures in Fantasia and Bastian's adventures in the real world. Various characters have also been altered, for example Xayide has become the Childlike Empress' sister, making them power equals. This enables her to become the main enemy to Bastian, Atreyu and all Fantasians over the span of the series.
