'TEN SPORTS' is a sports channel, which is widely broad casted in India, Pakistan, Middle East, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Hong Kong, Japan and Maldives
TEN Sports is the short name of Taj Entertainment Network Sports. They regularly broadcast Test cricket, one-day international cricket, field hockey and professional wrestling, a staple of the channel's programming. Recently, TEN Sports has been in legal struggles with Doordarshan over the rights to usually broadcast Test and ODI cricket when Pakistan tours in India. TEN Sports is the dominant sports channel in Pakistan. It currently has the exclusive rights to the UEFA Champions League for the next three seasons in India.With this the channel hopes to increase its viewership in the country over its rival ESPN Star Sports, which had previously held the rights for the tournament.
It also holds exclusive rights for WWE programing in India,Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Ten Sports also has the exclusive telecast rights for all cricket matches played in Pakistan. In 2004, it also bagged the telecast rights for West Indies cricket for the next five years. The combined cost of both acquisitions is said to be around $50 million. It has also held all rights to show cricket in Sri Lanka since 2001. Ten Sports sells the cricket television and sponsorship rights for Sri Lanka cricket on a worldwide basis.
On the 12th of November 2006, Zee Telefilms acquired 50% control of Taj Television Ltd. for $57 million. The channel had only launched in April 2002 and had originally been owned wholly by Emirati Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, the founder of the Sharjah cricket stadium. The channel acquired rights to broadcast the 2002 football world cup as a means of becoming visible in the sub-continent, and became the most viewed sports channel in India within a year of its launch.
Taj Television's portfolio consists of the Ten Sports channel, television production and transmission services for broadcast clients such as DirecTV, ART, Showtime Arabia , City 7 and Citruss TV.
