About the School
The school was founded in 1880 and is situated overlooking Princes Park. The Belvedere School now has over 500 pupils aged 3-18 and is currently part of the Girls' Day School Trust. It will, however, soon be leaving the trust in favour of becoming a flagship academy school (further details below).
The school focuses on both academic achievements and extracurricular activities, with many pupils playing for the county and international rounders teams. The Belvedere School was rated the best school in Liverpool by the official league tables, having gained 100% 5 A-C passes at GCSE in 2006; 99% of all exams taken were passed at grades A-C. Every year nearly all the Sixth Form students move on to university with between 3-4 pupils gaining entrance to Oxford and Cambridge.
The Academy Plans
Due to changes to the way the school is funded, there will be many changes to the way the school is organised and operates. Among other alterations, the school uniform will undergo a makeover. The school will have a new logo; a forget-me-not flower, which looks like a primary school logo.
The change to an Academy will also see a new array of teaching staff and facilities, which will accommodate for the plans to expand the school in September. The new building projects taking place in the coming year include a new Performing Arts centre, as well as additional new facilities for the Sixth Form and staff.
Other changes include the abolition of school fees, as well as a change in the way in which the school selects its pupils; the Belvedere Academy will select only 10% of its pupils by academic potential, as opposed to all of its pupils.
School Fees
School fees for the Junior School per term are:
Nursery - £1,570
Juniors - £1,900
School fees for the Senior School per term are £2,621. However, this fee depends on whether the student is covered by the bursary scheme.
The school will no longer have fees as of September 2007, as part of the Belvedere Academy plans.
