THE CRICKETER
'''The Cricketer''' was an English cricket magazine founded in 1921 by Sir Pelham Warner, the ex-England captain turned cricket writer. Sir Pelham edited the magazine until 1963. Later editors included E W Swanton and Christopher Martin-Jenkins.
The magazine had an independent life until October 2003 when, following a merger with the Wisden publishing group, it was relaunched in conjunction with ''Wisden Cricket Monthly'' as ''The Wisden Cricketer''.
Apart from its excellent coverage of the contemporary game, ''The Cricketer'' also contributed much to the sport's history. For example, its researches uncovered a letter in ''The Weekly Journal'' dated 21 July 1722 which is our source for an early fixture in Islington between London and Dartford on 18 July 1722.
