Based on a novel by Peter Lefcourt, the screenplay by William H. Macy is about a struggling film producer who agrees to make a movie about English statesman Benjamin Disraeli written by his nephew. The production is halted when the lead actor is kidnapped from the set, prompting the producer to team with a creative executive to find the star and salvage the film.
The film was shot in Cape Town and other South African locations. Directed by Steven Schachter, it stars Macy, Meg Ryan, Jason Ritter, L.L. Cool J, Elliot Gould, and David Hunt.
