![]() | Michael Jordan 1998 Finals: Gm 1 Vs. Utah Jazz, 33pts Out of Michael Jordan's career 179 playoff games, he has the astonishing record of 109 playoff games with 30+pts so this one might be lucky to make his list of top 100 playoff games if one wants to judge it on efficiency and victory. However, all MJ games - wins or losses - should be required viewing because of Magic Johnson's superlative quote: "...even if he hits just one shot, it might be the most amazing shot you've ever seen." Well, 35 year-old MJ went 13-29 here (which was respectable for the Finals but still a paltry 45% by his standards) and even with the tough loss, there was no doubt the smooth fades and perimeter-post footwork alone were worth our paycheck and 2.5 hours. But more importantly, this was the last leg of MJ's historic dominance and the world was watching closely. Curious non-basketball fans who never saw one basketball game were tuned in to this one. As underdogs for the first time during the running of the Bulls, some experts suddenly lost their minds and predicted MJ would go out losing because the team was too old with an average age of almost 32 years. And when the Bulls let this one get away at the last second in OT, those voices grew louder and were adamantly set in stone. Bob Costas himself just knew it was over for the Bulls. And what, one might ask, was I thinking during this entire time? The Bulls were coming off a grueling 7 gamer against the Pacers with just 2 days rest (which was only the 2nd time MJ was pushed to 7 games during his reign); the Jazz were motivated and hungry with 10 days rest; the game was in the loudest arena at Utah; two buckets by MJ were called off in crunch time that might have changed the outcome; the game went to OT with MJ and the rest at half-speed still bringing them back in the 4th; and it took a tremendous, brilliant shot by Stockton to eke out the win for Utah in the last few possessions. So what was I thinking? I knew right then MJ had ring #6 in the bag. |
![]() | LeBron James game winner and highlights vs Portland 2008 January 30, 2008 PORTLAND, Ore. -- It is not good to make LeBron James angry. Frustrated by a couple of blocked shots, James took over against the Portland Trail Blazers and made a reverse layup with less than a second left to give the Cleveland Cavaliers an 84-83 victory Wednesday night. James scored 17 points in the fourth quarter -- two more than the entire Portland team. Teammate Zydrunas Ilgauskas said James became frustrated when he was blocked twice by Blazers center Joel Przybilla. "LeBron came down the court and he was really angry at himself. And then he took over," Ilgauskas said. "I don't think he missed the rest of the game." Portland led by as many as 14 points in the second half, but the Cavaliers closed in as time ran down. James, who had 37 points and 14 rebounds, hit three consecutive 3-pointers to tie it 81 with 2:26 left. Travis Outlaw's jumper put the Blazers back in front, and they still held a narrow lead when Drew Gooden missed one of two free throws. Steve Blake missed a 3-pointer with 55 seconds left, but Portland was able to stop Cleveland on the other end. Brandon Roy ran down the clock, then missed a pressured 3-pointer with 5.9 seconds remaining. James' layup with 0.9 seconds left gave Cleveland its only lead of the half and the victory. "I just wanted to take every possession like it was our last and be aggressive," James said. "I don't know when the turning point happened, but we were able to ride the wave and get a win." The Cavaliers have won 13 of their last 16 games. They have won five straight road games for the first time since March 17-April 1, 1998. Cleveland got a brief scare midway through the fourth quarter when James inadvertently collided with Portland guard Sergio Rodriguez. James grimaced and grasped at his left pinkie finger, but appeared fine after a timeout and earned his 13th double-double of the season. Roy had 16 points and eight assists for the Blazers, while LaMarcus Aldridge had 16 points and nine rebounds. Portland's 35.3 percent shooting was a season low. "We stepped up too late," Roy said of James' game-winner. "Once he got to into the paint we didn't want to foul him so a couple of guys shied away. We've got to force him into a jump shot in that situation." The Blazers have only lost five of 23 home games this season. Cleveland was coming off Sunday's 98-95 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. James scored 41 points in that game, when the Cavaliers lost forward Anderson Varejao to a left ankle sprain. Varejao, who sprained the ankle when he accidentally stepped on Sasha Vujacic's foot, will miss up to four weeks. The Brazilian is averaging 7.8 points and 8.5 rebounds in 22 games. The Cavaliers were already without starting guard Sasha Pavlovic for at least six weeks with a left mid-foot sprain. The Blazers were coming off a dramatic, 94-93 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Portland came back from a 19-point deficit to win on Roy's free throw with 2.3 seconds left. The Cavaliers led 13-6 early on James' dunk, but the Blazers ran off the next 10 points to go up 16-13, capped by Martell Webster's 3-pointer. The Blazers extended the lead to 29-17 after Jarrett Jack made a pair of free throws. Cleveland came back to close within 33-31 on Devin Brown's running jumper. The Blazers held on to the lead, going up 48-38 after James was called for an offensive foul and coach Mike Brown was levied a technical foul for protesting it. Portland led 48-42 at the break. The Blazers built on the lead in the third quarter. Aldridge's layup made it 66-52 for Portland. But the Cavaliers are known for their comebacks. They have 10 wins when they trail to start the fourth quarter, most in the NBA. "We know the game is not over until there are zeros on the clock," James said. ============================ EDITED BY BRUCE BLITZ ============================ |
![]() | Kobe Bryant 48 points 16 rebounds vs Kings 2000-01 Game 4 May 13th, 2001 Arco Arena Sacramento, CA Boxscore: http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200105130SAC.html Statline: 48 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 15-29 FG, 1-1 3pt, 17-19 FT The Lakers were coming off an amazing 14 game winning streak that started at the finale of the regular season and continued through the NBA Playoffs of 2001. They were 6 for 6 in the playoffs and had won 8 consecutive games to end the regular season. They were 3-0 in the NBA Semifinals against the very talented Sacramento Kings. However, Lakers star Kobe Bryant had been troubled by off the court issues. He came back from a weekend most 22 year olds couldn't handle. Just hours before the start of Game 3, Bryant had found out his wife Vanessa Laine had been taken to an emergency room. After being assured by doctors that his wife's life wasn't in danger, Bryant scored 36 points in the Lakers' victory and rushed home, only to find his wife sleeping off her undisclosed malady. After checking on his wife's health, he rushed back to Sacramento for Game 4. People doubted he would have enough energy to play in Game 4. He proved them wrong. On a series of putbacks, floaters, facials, and tough jumpshots, he to make up for Shaq's foul troubles put up 48 points and 16 rebounds to help LA close out the Sacramento Kings in Game 4. Bryant would go on to say that the off the court issues "weren't a distraction at all." Notes: This is also the same game where Kobe throws down the famous posterization on Vlade Divac. |
![]() | Allen Iverson 1st ever win vs Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Chicago Bulls for the first time in over four years, ending a 16-game series losing streak with a 106-96 victory behind 31 points from Allen Iverson. The 76ers had not beaten the Bulls since December 8th, 1993, a span that included seven home games. They have had three coaching changes and four 50-loss seasons since that victory, while the Bulls have averaged 63 wins and have won the last two NBA titles. Derrick Coleman scored 10 of his 18 points in the third quarter, when the Sixers took control. Iverson, who finished two points shy of his season high, added nine in the final period, when the Sixers fought off a rally by the Bulls and opened a 19-point lead. Philadelphia has won four of its last six. "This game will give us a little bit more confidence," Iverson said. "It gives us confidence because if we can beat the world champions, there shouldn't be any reason why we shouldn't feel we can beat every team we play against. Some nights we're going to have off nights shooting the ball but if we play defense, we'll be in every game." Scottie Pippen scored 22 points -- two in the second half -- and Michael Jordan added 20 for the Bulls, who were coming off a convincing home win over Seattle and lost for the first time in three games since Pippen's return. Chicago dropped to 7-11 on the road. "When you go on the road, you got to take care of the ball, especially against teams that are trying to make a name for themselves," Jordan said. "I, myself, made a lot of mistakes out there and I certainly can take the blame for this one." Playing in front of a record crowd of 21,104 at the CoreStates Center, the Sixers overcame Pippen's 20 first-half points for a 52-51 lead. Iverson scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting. A layup by Randy Brown pulled the Bulls within 64-61 with 6:18 left in the third quarter before the 76ers went on a 13-3 run. Rookie Tim Thomas had a three-pointer and Coleman had a jumper and layup before a jumper by Clarence Weatherspoon made it 77-64 with 51 seconds to go. "We didn't take care of the basketball in the fourth," Jordan said. "Little stupid mistakes cost us the game. We're a better basketball team than that. You have to say a game like this is a learning experience for us. We didn't take care of the ball, especially when we got it down to within three." "What stood out is when they scored nine straight to start the fourth quarter, we just dug in," Sixers coach Larry Brown said. "Early on (in the season), we tried to win as individuals. Tonight it seemed, when they made a run at us, we continued to be a team and played the right way." Jordan and Pippen were limited to a combined 4-of-17 from the field in the second half. Pippen was just 1-of-6 as Thomas did a credible job on the perennial All-Star. "The second half we had to play a perimeter offense," Pippen said. "We settled for that instead of being smarter and trying to go inside. My conditioning is not at the point to where I should settle for outside jump shots." Before we had Theo and before Derrick's presence, we weren't a good defensive team, so we couldn't withstand runs by other teams and that was because we couldn't get any stops," Coleman said. "Now, we can get stops. That's made us a better team." "We can't say, 'This is a great thing because we beat the Bulls,'" Ratliff said. "We've got another game coming up and we have to play just as well against those guys. We're not going to go all out and celebrate or have a party or things of that nature just because we beat the Bulls." Dennis Rodman grabbed 20 rebounds for the Bulls, who also shot 46 percent (38-of-83) and held a 51-39 rebounding edge. But Chicago committed 29 fouls and 21 turnovers. |

![]() | Allen Iverson 37pts 8asts vs King James Cavaliers 07/08 NBA Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James were the headliners, but Allen Iverson and J.R. Smith stole the show. Iverson scored a season-high 37 points and Smith added 29 to help the Denver Nuggets beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 122-100 on Monday night. "They didn't steal my spotlight," said Anthony, who had 22 points and nine rebounds. "They did what they were supposed to do. They took advantage of the defense that they threw at us." Iverson set the tone early with his sharp shooting. He had 18 points at halftime, when the Nuggets took a 58-43 lead. He came out firing in the second half, scoring 11 points in the first six minutes, including two 3-poiners, to push Denver's lead to 78-51. "I got into a rhythm in the second half," said Iverson, who finished 14-for-20 from the field and added eight assists. "The basket looked like an ocean; I was throwing rocks in. It feels good when you catch a rhythm like that." James led Cleveland with 27 points, but the Nuggets were able to contain the rest of the Cavaliers. "Even though LeBron had a great game, his great game came from getting fouled," Nuggets coach George Karl said. "We took away what we wanted to take away, him making other people better." The Cavaliers struggled offensively. They shot 41.9 percent from the field and were 21-for-38 from the foul line. "I'm not too disappointed," James said. "We did a lot of things that we wanted to do differently. We didn't execute offensively or defensively. I think we tried to do some things right." Even though his team was playing its fifth game in seven days, Cavaliers head coach Mike Brown said fatigue was not an excuse. "Denver got off a [four]-game road trip in a short amount of time," he said. "It wasn't as if they were sitting here for five days waiting on us." The Nuggets (5-3) were coming off a dramatic win in Indiana on Saturday, when they rallied from 25 down to beat the Pacers. "We rode that momentum from the last game," Iverson said. "The confidence level was high, coming back from 25 down." The Nuggets led by as many as 27 in the second half Monday, but Shannon Brown hit two jumpers to start the final period that cut Denver's lead to 88-72. That's when Smith came alive. He scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and was 4-for-5 from behind the 3-point line to push the lead back to 25. "I just did what my team needed me to do -- make open shots, get my teammates the ball, rebound and play defense," Smith said. "Just go out there and have fun." The Cavaliers (4-4) trailed 21-18 after the first quarter despite shooting 25 percent. Cleveland benefited from seven Denver turnovers that helped keep the score close. The Nuggets used a 13-2 run, highlighted by an Iverson alley-oop pass to Smith, to take a 39-24 with 5:52 left in the first half. The Cavaliers (4-4) got within 11, but two 3-pointers by Smith at the end of the second quarter gave the Nuggets a 15-point lead at the break. Cleveland guard Larry Hughes didn't finish the game. After missing a 3-pointer with 7:42 left in the first half, Hughes felt he had been fouled and had some words for referee Bill Spooner, who quickly gave Hughes two technical fouls and ejected him. "I got hit four straight times on four jump shots by Melo," he said. "I got smacked good on four straight shots. I asked him to call a foul. I said what needed to be said." Game notes The Nuggets are 7-2 against Cleveland since Anthony and James joined the league in 2003. ... The 122 points were the most Cleveland has surrendered since allowing 120 to Philadelphia on Nov. 19, 2005, which was Brown's first year on the bench. ... Cavaliers G/F Sasha Pavlovic did not play. Pavlovic experienced back spasms against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night and left the game in the second quarter. ... Smith's 29 points were a season high. |

![]() | sAviOr vs Iris @ OSL Semi-Finals, Game 1&2 [Klaz Commentary] Commentary by KlazartSC http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=KlazartSC I'm only uploading this on Klazart's behalf, so please direct all positive comments to him! sAviOr[gm] vs Iris[gm] @ OSL (Season3) Semi-Finals, Best of 5, Games 1&2 Games 3&4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GKihOfAWjI Game 5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oW8pfkkOes This was an amazing Best of 5 semi-finals, coming to its peak at Game-5 that has since achieved somewhat of a legendary status in itself. Note this was Klaz's first ever commentary. Therefore you may find that in the first game he might have struggled a bit to find his pace, but very quickly adapted, and by Game-5 you could think the guy does this for living :-) Some interesting things to know: Iris and sAviOr are teammates on the CJ pro team, after the games were over, sAviOr revealed that the atmosphere back at CJ before the matches was tough. Both players were playing in separate rooms and haven't exchanged words in the days before the semis. Iris had, at the time (no idea about today), a winning % against sAviOr in CJ's inner ranking games. In an interview with sAviOr after both OSL and MSL finals, sAviOr said that he thinks Iris would have won if it wasn't televised live (Iris is known to have/had problems playing his best on TV games, more than the 'normal' progaming stagefright, though that situation seems to have greatly improved since that time). Iris has said many times (even at the recent OSL selection ceremony) that he wants to play against sAviOr in official games whenever possible, even if for example it comes to picking him in Ro16 which means only one CJ player would advance as result, he'd still do it. When asked by the interviewer if it would be the 'proper' thing to pick a teammate, Iris replied with "I don't care about such things" It is clear that Iris still has a great desire to prove himself, and he wants to do it through sAviOr. A lot of people are eager to see another future clash between these two amazing players. I hope that got you all ready to watch or re-watch this amazing Bo5, with Klaz's great commentary, enjoy! ![]() | 1990-91 Bulls V Celtics: 2 O.T. Easter Day Game A thrilling game from end to end. The Bulls lost this game 135-132 in Double Overtime. I uploaded this game to show that the Bulls didn't win 'EVERY' game, contrary to the popular belief of a lot of these kids on YouTube. I also wanted to show how incredibly competetive the games were then & the absurd high level of "SKILL" that was typically on display during this time, which is what's "SORELY" missing from today's game in my humble opinion & apparently a lot of others as well. Droves of fans haven't turned away from the game for nothing, which is reflected in the low ratings over the last 9 to 10 years. The minute the league started letting high schoolers & adopting "Street Ball" as it's mantra, the quality of the game has dramatically decreased. We have a league mostly filled with "Physically Gifted" pseudo-thugs & street ballers, with very "Little" Skill & it shows big time to anyone who knows the difference between both cultures, not to mention Professionalism has virtually disappeared. Bird was unbelievable, EVEN with a bad back & sore ankles, which highlights what REAL SKILL is all about. Pip had 30 plus & coming into his own that year & MJ, by his usual HIGH STANDARDS, had an OFF game & STILL put up 37 pts.. |
