THE GROUP FOR CONTEMPORARY MUSIC

'The Group for Contemporary Music' was an American chamber ensemble dedicated to the performance of contemporary classical music. It was founded in New York City in 1962 by Harvey Sollberger and Charles Wuorinen and was in residence at Columbia University from 1962 to 1971. It was the first contemporary music ensemble based at a university and run by composers.[1]
The group released a number of recordings on the Composers Recordings, Inc. label. It performed new works by composers including Sollberger, Wuorinen, Mario Davidovsky, Milton Babbitt, Elliott Carter, Chou Wen-chung, Jacob Druckman, Morton Feldman, Roger Sessions, Donald Martino, Stefan Wolpe, and Arnold Schoenberg.
