![]() | The Hands of Orlac Trailer - Original Composition This is a trailer for the classic silent horror movie 'The Hands of Orlac' I had to compose music for it at school, using a quite cliche motif as an idea. |
![]() | Christopher Lee - Hands Of Orlac - Trailer Christopher Lee, Mel Ferrer, Donald Wolfit, Dany Carrel. A well-done remake of Mad Love, with Mel Ferrer as the pianist with the transplanted criminal hands and Christopher Lee as the sleazy magician who blackmails him. (1960) |
![]() | Something Weird Hands of a Stranger This film is a contemporary U.S. remake of "The Hands of Orlac". A famous pianist's hands are surgically replaced with the hands of a recently executed killer. Unable to play the piano, he goes crazy and seeks revenge on the doctors who performed the operation as well as the cabdriver, now blind, who caused the accident in which he lost his hands. - Something Weird |
![]() | Peter Lorre - Surgeon (Mad Love - 1935) Dr. Gogol (Lorre) is obsessed with an actress he has seen on stage. He discovers that the object of his desire is married to the famous pianist, Orlac. In this scene, Orlac has been in a train wreck which has crushed his hands. He had been brought to a hospital, and doctors there were preparing to amputate his hands. In desperation, Madam Orlac insists on having her husband transported to Dr. Gogol's clinic, trusting both in his skill and in his feelings for her to save her husband's prized, piano-playing hands. Dr. Gogol realizes that Orlac's hands are beyond saving. However, desperate not to let her down, he asks the chief of police for the body of a recently executed murderer in order to graft the corpses hands onto Orlac's wrists. On the sly, of course. ;) |
![]() | Beat Girl AKA Wild For Kicks [1960] An excerpt from a recommended UK JD B flick. Stars Gillian Hills as a rebellious art school student. She doesn't like her rich daddy's new French wife so she wreaks revenge by stripping for Christopher Lee. LOL Well maybe not quite but who cares about accuracy when one can be sensationalistic? This very cool film boasts an intriguing cast which also includes Oliver Reed (seen in this clip) and Adam Faith. Directed by Edmond T. Gréville (Princess Tam-Tam, The Hands Of Orlac). Music by John Barry. I'm a little disappointed by the lack of extras on the DVD but am otherwise pleased to see that it's available. The Doctor prescribes viewing Beat Girl twice a day until you feel cool again. |
![]() | Peter Lorre - Galatea (Mad Love - 1935) Dr. Gogol's last, sad moments of madness. Dr. Gogol (Lorre) has purchased the wax sculpture of the actress with whom he is obsessed. He calls the sculpture "Galatea", after the Greek myth of Pygmalion and Galatea. According to myth, Pygmalion carves a woman out of ivory and falls in love with the statue. He prays to Aphrodite, who feels pity for Pygmalion and brings the statue to life. In this scene, Dr. Gogol has fallen into madness after the rejection of the actress. Here, the real actress hides in Dr. Gogol's room after finding herself trapped. Imagine Dr. Gogol's surprise when his beloved Galatea comes to life! "There is blood on your cheek, Galatea. So it seems that wax can bleed." "Galatea! I am Pygmalion! You were wax, but you came to life in my arms!" |
![]() | Peter Lorre - It is I who am mad! (Mad Love - 1935 Dr. Gogol (Lorre) attempts to frame a murder on the husband of the woman he obsesses over. Little does he know that his "wax Galatea" is no longer made of wax! "He shall be shut up, when it is I who am mad! But nuh-body knows that, excepting you and me!" :) |
![]() | Peter Lorre - Obsession (Mad Love - 1935) Dr. Gogol (Lorre), famous physician and recluse, becomes obsessed with an actress he sees tortured on stage. Here he oggles a wax sculpture of Yvonne, the woman he desires. |
![]() | Peter Lorre - The Kiss (Mad Love - 1935) Lorre's only on-screen kiss in any movie. The good Dr. Gogol (Peter Lorre) becomes obsessed with an actress, whom he pays to see on stage every night. Here you see him exhibiting some deliciously creepy stalking behavior. :) |
