THE IVY CLUB

'The Ivy Club', founded in 1879, was the first eating club at Princeton University, in Princeton, New Jersey, United States. The members of each class are selected through ''bicker'', a series of interviews followed by discussions amongst the members.
The Club is described by F. Scott Fitzgerald in ''This Side of Paradise'' (1920) as "detached and breathlessly aristocratic." In addition to offering waited meals to its members and functioning as a social facility, Ivy serves an academic role in the university community. Undergraduate members also host regular "Roundtable Dinners" featuring talks by faculty and alumni. The club was one of the last to admit women, resisting the change until Spring 1991 after a lawsuit had been brought against Ivy Club, Tiger Inn, and Cottage Club by student Sally Frank [1].
Beginning in the summer of 2007, the club will undergo its most significant renovation to date. The expansion will add a second wing to the facility, changing the club's current L-shaped layout to a U. The renovation will include the addition of a two-story Great Hall, and an underground Crypt to provide additional study space.
