THE MAN WHO
'''The Man Who''' is the second album by the Scottish indie rock band Travis, and the album that brought them into international recognition. It was first released in late spring 1999, and reached #1 in the UK albums chart, and #8 in Australia. It also helped the band win two BRIT Awards in 2000, and was the same year the album was released in Canada with "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?" as the first single, instead of "Writing To Reach You" which was the albums first single in the UK. The album was co-dedicated to Stanley Kubrick.
In 2000 ''Q'' magazine placed it at number 54 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever.
''The Man Who'' had the unusual distinction of experiencing "an event" every 13 weeks of the album's release:
★ 13 weeks- Dropped to its then lowest chart placing of #19 after entering at #5;
★ 26 weeks- Climbed to #1;
★ 39 weeks- Sales exceeded 1,000,000 and went back to #1 after the BRIT Awards success;
★ 52 weeks- Sales then reached 2,000,000.
The title of the album is a reference to an Oliver Sacks book, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat.
